Have any women cut their own hair? I have done it a few times but it is really hard since my hair is longer. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I can't bring myself to go and pay $15 for a cheap hair cut when I can do it myself =) I use to go to the nice salons before I had kids, but now I just can't bring myself to go and get my hair cut. My husband thinks I am crazy and won't help me when I try to cut my hair...he wants me to go and have someone do it that knows whay they are doing.

i wouldn't cut my own hair lol. i have bangs and it gets long quite fast and i occasionally go to the salon to get it trimmed because it keeps getting into my eyes. there was once i tried cutting it by myself because i think it's such a waste of money to trim my bangs at the salon. it turned out weird O.o ..after that i vowed never to cut my bangs on my own anymore....

I hate going to salons. I generally cut the top and sides myself and leave the back long. I put it up in a ponytail sometimes when it is hot. LIVE IN PEACE

Dear Friend, if my husband says go cut your hair I go without thinking about it. I think of it as pampering myself. I would never cut my own hair. I don't trust myself. I think I would get scissor crazy and cut off all my hair! hahaha.

I've been cutting my hair for the last 5 years. I even got my colleagues asking me if i permed my hair and i said i layered it. Another colleague asked me how much i paid for it and where did i go for my hair cut, i said it's free and i did it myself. You should see the look of disbelief in their eyes. Of course hubby helped with the blind spot a little. But you also have to know what you want to look like. It is better if you can visualise in 3-D rahter than have an unwilling husband to help you :) As for me, cutting my own hair gives me a sense of satisfaction and a certain degree of pleasure when i get compliments for my hair. all the best! - Lyn

I agree with your husband. $15 is not a lot to pay for a professional to cut your hair. I would never even dream of cutting my hair. Its really not worth making a huge mistake. You never know what could happen, you could end up cutting a big piece of hair by accident, and then you would be in trouble. I would suggest going to a salon. $15 every 2 months for a hair cut is not that bad.

I have cut my own hair in the past. When I was about 15 and got tired of it and my mom wouldn't take me to get it done. So I took the scissors and chopped it all off. My dad had a fit but my mom said it looked cute and helped me straighten the back. I didn't get it cut again until just before I graduated high school (by then it was to my waist). I also had my husband cut it once but he got 5 minutes into and goes "oops" I swear. It wasn't that bad and did grow back. I have a hard time taking myself to get it cut, too. It just seems like such a hassle but I hate having long hair now--it just makes me too hot. So the other day we were at Wal-mart and I took my 4yo over and we both got our hair cut to our shoulders. 2 days later I took my 6yo to get hers done. I got charged only $15 the first day because my daughter left with my husband before my cut was done and the lady forgot to charge me for it (I didn't even realize it until we left). My other daughter's wash and cut cost $10 which is more then I like to pay for a kid's cut. I usually cut all my kids' hair myself.

I haven't tried to cut my own hair, but I was crazy enough to let my husband do it! He thought I looked better with my hair shorter so he decided to cut it a little shorter than I wanted. lol. It took weeks to get back to a length that I could actually pull it all up in a pony tail. With 2 kids and one on the way its hard for me to get time to go or even afford it. But it needs cut again, so I'm going to have to find time, i'm not crazy enough to let my husband try again lol.

i never tried cutting my own hair. but even though i go to salons to get my hair cut, i agree that you can save $15 when you do it on your own. the scariest part about cutting your own hair is the possibility of making a mistake. but as you said, you have done it a few times, so you don't have any problem about making any mistake. from the sources that i had, it says there that you have to be patient. it's better to cut too little than too much. oh, tell your husband that your not crazy, its actually a great idea. =]

I have cut women hair and even my own hair. Iam not a hairstylist or something but I know this technique on how to cut your own hair like a "shaggy look/ V-look" which is nice...actually i cut all their hair like this. Easy way to do it by yourself: first you need it bow down your hair and brush your hair forward covering your face, then you cut it horizontal straight like from one side to the other side. the lower you bow down your head, the shorter it gets in each sides of your hair but the good thing is the length at the back stays the same...your should try this one time. Its best for long hairs.

I use to have really long hair so I would trim it myself. You need to section your hair off and trim it by sections. That's how I did it and it always worked for me! Make sure you have mirrors so you can see all angles of your head too! I've never given myself a styled cut so no advise there, sorry! You shouldn't feel guilty about going to get your hair done, every woman deserves to be pampered once and a while, plus you're a mom so you've elevated to becoming a "superwoman", that's what I call my girlfriends who have kids because unfortunately they are doing it alone, plus going to school and working full time! They actaully both enjoy going to the salon b/c they can take a break from everyone else and THEY get to be waited on for a change:) Good luck....

I can't cut my own hair, but I have tried. I have also tried to cut my husbands. I don't think I did that bad of job on my husbands, but he didn't like it and will not let me touch it again. He used to let me give him perms when they were in style, but we don't do that anymore. He won't even let me cut the dogs hair. He is crazy. So I make him cut the dogs hair and he does really good, but he would rather pay $35 to go have it cut. Not me I am all about saving money. I have ruined my own hair before cutting my own. My hair is too thick for me to cut.

yes, i do it most of the times but i have an advantage of short hair so i donot find it that messy. i make two pony tales and cut the edges, then open the knots and trim it straight.

I cut my own fringe, but I would never dare to cut the back myself. I am lucky though I have a friend that has been doing it for me. The amount that the salons charge is ludicrous, and Im not paying that.

HI THERE!! I am 20 yrs old and have a shoulder length wavy hair.I think we both are in the same boat. I too had tought times explaining how I wanted my hair to look like to various stylists but I never was satisfied. so once out of frustration a few months ago i sat down and started analysing what them. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT IF YOU AINT CONFIDANT ABOUT DOING THEM YOURSELF THEN ALWAYS TRUST THE NATURAL STYLE OF UR HAIR. ONLY TRIM THEM FORM THAT AREA WHICH HAS A SLIGHT DIFFERENT COLOUR..... AND TAKE IT SLOW...... AND NEVER GIVE UP I THINK I HAVE LEARNT A LOT ABOUT MY OWN STYLE SENSE IN THAT WAY.

haha.. i think it's really odd to cut your own hair.. you don't even know what you're doing if you cut your own hair.. well.. i think i have friends that actually cut their own hair.. and most of them are girls.. and.. she can do it really good.. much better compared to salons.. which i kind of disbelieve when she first told me she cut it herself... i think it's okay to cut your own hair as long as you know what you're doing... sometimes if you simply cut your hair.. it will turn out to be really ugly.. and i think you might not even want to see yourself in the mirror =)

No, I don't cut my own hair but I only do cut my bangs which I can see much better in front. But when talking about cutting my hair including back then I can't hardly do that. I always let someone do my hair for me.
