I got my boyfriend an ice cream maker for his birthday. We haven't had time to use it yet. Do you make your own ice cream? Do you have any good recipes or know where to get some?

I am so glad that you mentioned this. I have an ice cream maker and love to make homemade ice cream. Now I also have a problem. I went to get the recipe book so I could give you the recipe I use, and it is not where to be found. Didn't your ice cream maker come with a recipe book. Sorry I couldn't find my recipe~ I am going to search some more.

It came with a few recipes but for basic ice creams. I wanted to see what other people made in theirs. =)

You could use the basic recipe and add some fruits or carmel ect, depending on what kind of ice cream you are in the mood to try.

Homemade icecream is great! I bought the missus one a few years ago. We don't use it much, but when we do, we make a bunch that should last normal people a month...but in our house, you'd be lucky for a few days!!! We got some pretty good recipes from a site called epicurious.com. I'm not sure of the spelling. Our family favorites are: Chocolate P-nut butter (really, really rich)...be careful, this could strip the motor Pina Coloda (light and refreshing) Mint Chocolate Chip...very different then what you get in a store.

I like that website. Never thought of looking there for ice cream recipes. Thank you so much for the suggestion. I will definitley have to check it out! We eat a lot of ice cream. As you said, amounts that would last others a month, last at most a week here.

That's too funny. haha I know some of the recipes we've wanted to make would mean boiling the mixutre and then cooling it so it could be added to the maker. I'm just amused that you never made it because it got eaten.lol

There was one recipie that we tried that called for boiling the mixture before putting it into the mixer. The problem with that one was it never made it to the mixer....It was something fruity that made the whole house smell with a fruity aroma. I'll admit, I let the kids eat it along with me...you can't punish the whole family now can you? lol

on my own, without an icecream maker, i remember first making my own ice cream when i was about 8-10 years old, and made it for several years after that. i haven't made it in a while but still remember that it tasted really yummy! i got the recipe from the original Joy of Cooking cookbook, so if you can get your hands on that, look up their ice cream recipes, which are really simple to make. we also got an ice cream maker for my grandparents and i remember experimenting with a lot of different flavor, including purple yam (which is really popular in the philippines), and mango....YUM!

Very nice. I cannot wait to make all kinds of yummy sorbets and such. I love sorbets. I just want my boyfriend to use the machine first so then I can use it all the time. It was a gift for him so I don't want to be greedy and use it first. haha

Every now and then we make our own ice cream. We don't have a ice cream maker though. I found a recipe that the kids love to make. I don't remember exactly how or what all goes in it though. Recipe is somewhere in my recipe drawer. But the kids get to shake the gallon size Ziploc bags or put it into a coffee can to make it.

Aww, that's cute. I bet they love to do that. Sounds pretty interesting. I never realized that there were so many other ways to make ice cream with out a maker.

I don't have an ice cream maker but I have made vegan ice cream in the blender with avocado, soymilk, cocoa, dates, and ice. It probably sounds strange but it's very tasty and healthy.

Yeah, I do make my own sundae. That is awesome. I even use fat free/light frozen yogurt to make my own sundae. I add fat free/light dark chocolate syrup and light whipped cream. I choose vanilla frozen yogurt. I mix in peanut butter as well.
