Finally, someone had the guts to do the obvious, i.e. sack the entire Newcastle back line. Big Sam has axed Titus Bramble along with fellow defenders Craig Moore and Olivier Bernard, as well as keeper Pavel Srnicek and loan signing Oguchi Onyewu. I think that is the right way forward for Newcastle United. What is your views on this? Cheers! Ram

First of all he needs 4 defenders. I would recommend that he goes to Italy or Germany for the back four. I do hope Owen stays as Sam has the right credentials to take New Castle to the next level. Cheers! Ram

i hope he can and i would say you are right there is some good players in italy and Germany but also there is good players in England. i hope he goes for proven players and not real young players that have yet to prove what they can do.

Sorry dear friend , as admitted in one of my previous discussions I really dont have much knowledge about these things and that's why I am unable to put forth my ideas ! Any way I think since I have answered your discussion , there is likely hood that it will come to surface now from the bottom of the heap and people who are genuinely have knowledge about the subject will lap at it ! Wish you all the best!

Well... not the entire defence. He has kept Steven Taylor, a really excellent defender and a consistenly hard worker. He has kept Nobby Solano, who is at his best when he comes forward from an outside fullback role. Nobby got a new contract yesterday. Really glad to see that lazy thug Craig Moore pack his bags and go though. Hope the dirty bugger never gets into another team ever. I'm ashamed he is a fellow Australian. Big Titus had to go too; just too many embarrassing blunders. Sometimes Titus defended well for 80 minutes and then his brain went off to la-la land for 10 minutes during the game. Bramble just couldn't be trusted. I wish we kept Oguchi Onyewu. The tall American was a hard worker, reliable and a good reader of the game. He had a great game marking Drogba. Overall though I agree that it is the correct way forward for Newcastle to bring in a whole new set of fullbacks. ...thanks for your topic ram_cv

I agree with what you say, our defence has been pathetic for as long as I can remember. With KK we were always scoring goals but when you dont score and your defence is bad you really do get found out. I thought Guchi would have been given a chance he looked half tidy but I feel BS wanted a clean slate, you know a defence he could call his own. With the players BS will bring in alomg with his tactics I think we'll all see a major improvment. I honestly think we'll be challenging for the title with in 3 years.

I think lack of consistency was the bane for New Castle defense. As you have put it nicely, they could defend both individually and collectively for around 70-80 minutes and then would become absolutely hopeless and commit blatant blunders. Now we have managed to rope in Joey Barton, that's a good addition in the midfield. Cheers! Ram
