This is a heated subject that is rarely discussed. What are your thoughts on verbal and emotional abuse in class? I know of a teacher who makes fun of and ridicules certain students in front of the entire class. He throws things, threatens the students, makes gay comments etc. Do you think teachers like this should be reported to the school board for misconduct of a teacher?

This kind of behaviour from a teacher is going to create lot of problems in the long run. There must be some reason why he is behaving like this. May be he is trying to control bad elements among the students and the higher authorities are not officially supporting him. Whatever it may be, he should maintain absolute decorum in the class if he desires to have any positive influence on the students. If this is happening on a regular basis , higher authorities must be aware of this. How come, they have not intervened and sorted out the problem, yet?

Well actually neither the school nor the school board were aware of the problem, because students were to scared to speak up.

You can report him but will it do any good? Many times the school authorities ignore when an adult tells them about what is going on in a classroom. You must have evidence and most times they clain the allegations are unfounded.

You are most likely right in 'some' cases, but still it should be reported, correct?

I think it's a matter that's out of control. They have student handbooks on misconduct in place, but they need one for the teachers too. How are our children going to get a good sound education if they're not focused due to a teacher who's out of line. They need good role models in the classroom as well as at home. I agree with another poster that this teacher needs sacked.

Absolutely, There can (and should) be joking around between teachers and students, but threats, ridicule and other such "motivators" should be reported. Parents should talk to the teacher, it could be that they think the kids enjoy it, and if no one talks to the teacher about it, they may never find out that many kids don't appreciate it.

yea those kind of teachers need fired! no teacher should ever make fun of a single student in once class. Ther eis no excuse even if he did it to every kid in the class just ot make everyone feel better. no! this ruins childrens lives! some kids take stuff seriously, and if their oun teacher is making fun of them, they would probibly snap, either by killing themselves, thestudents and teachers who made fun of them, or all the above!

Teacher like this do need to be report but when there is such a shortage of teacher it rarely does any good. I think the way schools see it is if they are not physically harming a child then the will look the other way and hope it won't get out of hand. My oldest daughter had a 3rd grade teacher that was WAY past her prime, she had been teaching for 48 years, and she would walk past the students and smack them upseide the head with sheets of paper and call them stick-in-the-mud, stupid, lazy and no good. My daughter use to come home crying because of this teacher. I went to the head of the school and she told me to tell my daughter to try and do her best in class then she wouldn't be called this names! I was so mad. Thanksfully the teacher retired that same school year so no other child had to go through it. As hubby said earlier, our special needs daughter had a teacher simular but she took it a step farther and would make the kids sit in time-out all day without being able to go to the bathroom. Many children wet on themselves and she would ridicule them and make them sit in it all day, putting them on the bus with wet pants. She has been reported, lawyers have been involved but guess what, she is still teaching the same special needs children. Unfortunatly until they start paying teacher more money we will always have teachers like this in our school, ruining the schools experience for some children.

Those teachers should not be teachers. In fact, they should be prosecuted and charged for that abuse. It may seem harsh, but these teachers should know better.

Teachers like that should be reported and forced to aplogise to the students for that behaviour what does it show the students about beign an adult. Teachers are given a powerful position in life they shoudl treat it as such and act better than that.

I definitely think that teacher needs to be reported. The question is what will be done about it. I know where I live tenured teachers are so protected that they get away with this kind of abuse and cannot be fired by their union over it. On the other hand, when a teacher finds out a student's parents reported them, they may bully the child even more. This is very common in high school. My daughter had a science teacher like this last year and I went all the way to the superintendant and nothing was done. We all breathed a sigh of relief when school was finally over.
