My kids think they need to wear deodorant.

All diffrent kinds of deodorant. At what age is it - At what age should a kid start to use deodorant? Do your kids use it?

I have 4 kids ages 8,7,5,2 and all of them even my 2 year old want to be allowed to wear deodorant. I;m sure the baby only cares about it because the kids want to use it. But as far as the older ones go does anyone else let there kids wear it? I dont mind them slapping some on before going to school. Is this something I sholud not be doing? Is there anything wrong with them putting deodorant on at there ages? Will it cause any kind of medical problem is what I mean?

I was surprised to learn when I started working in an elementary school that one of the school supplies requested is deodorant, for after PE and recess, in the third grade,( maybe even in second, I am not sure). I do not know that it is necessary, but the fact is that kids are maturing younger and younger, and that pre puberty sweat stinks. Even worse are the smell of their feet if they do not wear socks in their PE shoes. They should probably put the deoderant on their feet. I would consider it for the seven and eight year old, but not insist. I think it is like little girls wearing big girl clothes now. We do not let the kids be kids.

I should have said to look for something made with baking soda, and unscented, if this is something you will be doing. I work in the classrooms, and after PE, you can smell the classroom clear down the hall.

whenever my two year old sees me putting deodorant on he always lifts his shift and points to his armpits and says on. I put a little bit on him and he looks all happy, it's pretty funny.

I never thought about it causing medical problems but I wonder now. My three year old grandson likes to wear it too because he sees daddy doing it. The only thing I can think of is to ask the doctor.

If they need it then yes have them use it. I mean the other two anyway. You can get the baby fresh smelling on. I would have them use the stick kind though not the spray.

My 2 year old wants to wear it as well, and when he asks we go ahead and put some on him! He has super sensitive skin and sometimes he gets some eczema, and has never had a problem with the deoderant my hubby puts on him. My older kids haven't asked yet, maybe soon! I know personally me and my hubby both use it, so whenever they want to start I will let them.

Maybe you could get them a powder box with baby powder for their sweet little unstinky pits. That way it wont harm them!

my sister lets her 2 girls ages 9 and 7 wear some, but i think it might be a kids deodrant like it not as strong as adults one. but id sya best thing to do is ask your doctor about it, my niece who is 3 likes spray on deodrant because she sees me and her mum putting it on, so now she says me have some to so i do but instead spray on her clothes i spray little bit to the side of her so its not as strong, and i wouldnt allow her to put it direct on her skin.

There is special cosmetic for children, even deodorants. But i think that the too aggresive chemical ingredients are harmfull for the delicate skin of the children. So for them is enough to keep perfect hygiene, may be some wet aromatic hankachiefs, but nothing more.

The children they wont learn anything on there own. They always follow the surroundings and they get addicted to the things that are taking place around them. So deodrants are the things put only by parents from where they get used. So if you think there is a danger with deodrants first you be away from the deodrants...

When kids hit puberty some start to develop body odor. I beleive boys generally begin between ages 9 and 14. I really don't see a problem with it. My 4 year old sees me putting deodorant on and she likes to copy me, so I let her. There's no specific age at which kids can start using deodorant, but if you want, you can ask youur family doctor, because I'm 100% sure they have a kids deodorant out. You might even be able to get that at Wal-Mart or something.

As long as it is organic or all-natural, I can't see why not. Then there wouldn't be any synthetic chemicals and other harsh stuff to irritate their skin or cause health problems. And, besides, it would make them smell pretty, and who wouldn't want that? Even when I was a little girl I always loved to smell pretty, not that kids stink or anything.

Of course, I wouldn't know about kids and stinking. I've never had kids of my own. LOL

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. It's good for them to learn early to take good care of themselves. There are many products on the market that are natural or organic. I don't think there is any harm in it. My grandkids use body spray everyday, and we have had no problems. They love to smell good when they go to school.

My son turns 2 on June 2, and loves to wear deodorant and cologne. He started at about 1 and every time he sees me or his dad put it on he will freak out until you put it on him. I always have I mean really what is in it that is so harmful unless you can tell it is too strong and they get a rash every time they where it.But, that is a whole different story. My daughter is almost 7 and sometimes I think I need to have her start wearing it. I mean when they start to stink you don't want them to get made fun of.Besides as a parent if letting them wear deodorant is the worst thing you let them do then you are doing pretty good.

My daughter is 6 and I let her wear it if she wants too. I get the little samples in the mail and give them to her. Or if I buy one I don't like she gets it. I don't think it is bad for her or anything, it makes her feel grown-up in some silly way =) Since I don't make a big deal out of it though she doesn't always use it. It is just a fun thing, and my little boy likes to get some too and just giggles when we put it on him!

I don't use it very often at all. there are a lot of harful metals in deodorants and especially in antiperspirants. probably a good comprimise would be allowing a nice smelling body spray, rather than a deodorant. the thing is, it's the bacteria that breed in sweat that smell bad. if you wash frequently to remove the bacteria there shouldn't be any smell. fresh sweat doesn't really smell of anything much. some people won't find washing enough, but maybe at that age you should tell them that deodorant is to cover up the smell of not washing properly. hehe. basically it's not really a good idea to use deodorant if it can be avoided. good hygiene is enough for a lot of people. if necessary, maybe look for a powder deodorant with bicarb and antibacterial essential oils. Lush do some very good ones.

The 8 and 7yos might actually need it. My now 11yo has been wearing deoderant since age 7 b/c she needed to. She seems to be developing earlier than I did. My 8yo, OTOH, shows no sign of puberty on the horizon, including this.

Well if regular deodorant is too harsh for their skin you could try a hypoallegenic one. You would probably be better off to ask the doctor though. I dont see why would bother them besides maybe it irratating their skin. As for the five year old and two year old i think they are a bit young to do it. I dont think i started using it until i was like 13. You must have your hands full with 4 kids, good luck!

I think that they have deodorant that these children can wear. I guess that it will make them feel grown. It is fine to make them use it as long as it is not too strong for their skin and doesnt irritate them. I remember that I wanted to use it when I was younger. It encourages good hygiene so it is actually good that they want to do it.
