We in Sri Lanka got all these habits from the British. So we follow the British ways. The easiest rule when using fork, spoon, knife etc., is that you must use the cutlery that it further away from the plate first. The waiters arrange them in that manner.

Spoon should be on right hand, fork on the left. If you want to use the knife, take it on your right. It should be fork-knife, not fork-spoon. Because you have to hold the piece of meat down with your fork before you can slice it with the knife. A spoon wouldn't be of much help to a knife.

i am not so sure of the american and other ways. i just happened to learn the use of them when i was in high school (since in my hometown, we dont use it much). what i know is, when you are finished eating, put the the cutlery together on your plate.

I don't know the exact way to use spoon, fork etc. But I think knife should be in left hand and spoon in right hand. Don't believe it to be correct Because i am not pretty sure.
