Are Nagas Indian?

India
May 20, 2007 1:10pm CST
Nagas live within the constitutional framework of India as of now. But there are Nagas who claims that Nagas are not Indian, and will never be. It is because of this reason that some people want to have a separate nation for the Nagas. Do you consider yourself to be an Indian? Why or why not should Nagas seek independance from India?

Many Indians doesn't know who are Nagas and where is Nagaland, well, Nagaland is moreover one of the least developed states in India. If India doesn't care for Nagas and Nagas doesn't want to be under India!!! so what is the big deal???

I know Nagas are very different from other Indians, but same is the case with other Indians. The amount of difference between a Naga and a Punjabi is the same between a Bengali and a Bihari, but I think Nagas are as much Indian as anyone else, there's nothing called Indian, India is a word to describe a group of completely different people who are together because they are united. India is a word to describe the unity and togetherness among more then 5000 different types of people with different caste, religion, region, language, dialect, subdialects, ethnicity, raciality, food, clothing, climatic, etc etc. We are all different but yeah we are still the same. We are same in only one way and that is we are from the country of India. So by Nagaland separating, it will be trouble for both of us. That's what our enemies want. Nagaland is a very important part of India. It is the key to the country. If Nagaland stays in India, India remains united, if Nagaland breaks, the whole country will crumble. This goes for every part. If they take out one part of the country be it Kashmir or Lakshadweep, the whole country will fall apart. Nagaland will then be attacked by other countries and so will be other parts. You are no way a betrayer headhunter. Your thinking is beneficial not only for the Nagas but also for the whole country. Maybe Nagas are thinking that way because of mistakes committed by the Indian govt like not paying enough attention. But for us to survive no one can separate no matter how different we are.

I had a hot one with my HR at one time on this topic. I might follow different religion or culture but at heart i am Indian. I only wish that folks here(non-nagas)would accept us as one of them rather than alienating themselves from us.We can't deny the fact that India is just as diverse as America. We have every different kind of people, race, color, etc just like they have there in the USA too. So why divide among ourselves when we caould all live together.

As they are still within the ambit of Indian const as you said, yes of course ,they are Indian. Accor to my point of view, considering the post-independent economic scenario ,their vision of 1. Greater Nagaland & 2.Sovereignty or independence, it seems like a pie in the sky .Even though i've a very limited knowledge about it, this much i know that Nagas will remain dependent on other countries for its growth, develpt & its survival, i blame the leaders for such a myopic & shallow outlook. Unlike the other countries like those of middle-east or OPEC though they are small in their geo boundaries but they have natural endowment of oil resources in which they have a high bargaining power against other countries so they cannot be undermine easily, about the Nagas i don't see any natural resources nor any potential fields to bargain with the other countries....well this are just my little thoughts, i'm afraid if i've said in a very pompous manner .....lol.....

Hey, that was a wonderful response. I have rated your comment positively. I agree that we are not a resources rich region so being a sovereign nation will cripple our economy. Thanks for the words!

I am a Naga. I am an Indian. If Nagas get independence, I'll not be an Indian anymore. But untill then, I'll be an Indian. Officially. Many Nagas feel they are not Indians, but that's a different story
