Yes, I was a manager at one before I quit a job. I did like it but quit to go to a better paying job at a lower rank. I did like being a manager. I guess it really depends on where you work and what your job requirements are. The job where I was manager at was alot of fun. It was at a small factory. But it was crew leaders. Not manager. Being a crew leader you were top boss on the floor. Everyone was under you. You had to assign the people their tasks. Make sure they carried them out and was done right. If not you need to have them go back and redo it. After you showed them how.

I was store manager of a vitamin/health food store for a while. I didn't like it all that much because I felt that the company didn't give me proper training before putting me in a management role. I was left on my own to figure things out, and then when the district manager came to check things out a whole year later, was in trouble for not properly doing things that I was never taught to do in the first place. I do think the experience gave me a lot of insight into what it's like to be a manager, though, and in a company where I got proper training and support, I'm sure I could do a good job. =)

Years ago, I filled in for my boss for various reasons. It was a nice change. I got to learn a few more things and got to undertsand more about our department. It was a good experience, but didn't give me the urge to become a manager.

Don't feel bad. My roommate was a store manager at a small convinience store and was also thrown in there without ever so much as 1 day of training. She worked her butt off some weeks working in excess of 90 hours a week because the company expected so much from her. She couldn't find an assistant manager that met "their standards" She was so tired and worn out. Then she got hit with a audit that she bombed because she was missing certain "paperwork" that she had no idea even what it was! She is 36 years old and that is the first job she was ever fired from after being in retail for years. She wouldn't have ever been in that boat if they would have just shown her what the heck she was doing. She is just a cashier now at a gas station and says even though it pays less it is well worth it for not having the stress. She also found out most managers get paid about 20,000 more a year then what she was making so that company actually did her a favor. lol.She says she plans on seeking another managers position but would find a company that will actually train her and does not have such high expectations. Ex She actually gets days off! She is looking for friends online so i'm sure she would love talking to you. Pop her an e-mail if you would like. Her e-mail is carolrice70@yahoo.com Have a good night. Good discussion!
