Hello all - I had a Mirena IUD put in 4 months ago and I had dealt with the spotting and cramping just fine, but about 2 months ago - I started feeling extremley depressed. It seemed to come out of no where and it seemed to take over me. I am usually a very happy go lucky person and this is concerning me. I was wondering if any other women who have Mirena have experienced this. IF you have experienced depression with Mirena what did your OB tell you or what action did you take to cure this???? Please help me out with this, I feel lost

I was just going to say what the responder above me already said. Mirena has hormones it releases, any medication that alters your hormones can cause depression. Start by talking to your doctor.

I don't use that one for birth control, I use the depo shot, but anything with hormones in them like that one does, can cause depression. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor about it. He can replace it with one that has no hormones, or he can prescribe an antidepressant for you to help deal with it.
