This is a branch off from the discussion started by deepestblue. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1103733.aspx?p=5 I understand that some couples would live together without getting married because of many reasons (financial reason and such). I'd like to know. If you lived in a world where gas prices were low and fixed, no income taxes, having other taxes which are low or almost non existent, would you consider getting married instead of having a lived in relationships?

I guess those are some of the reasons some couples choose to live together, however, the things you listed don't have any impact on our decision to live together. We have both been married before, and divorced several times. We chose to live together because for now, marriage just isn't that appealing. The way I look at it now, I don't need a ring on my left hand or a piece of paper to tell me that I love him or he loves me, it's the day to day things that show me that. Our answer to friends and family when they ask if we have talked or thought about getting married 'Yes, we have discussed it and decided that we will get married........if we are still together 30 years from now, and providing we can get up the aisle and still hear the preacher!" IC so its more to do with personal choice than surrounding factors.

Well it was for us, I'm not saying that it is that way for all people. I have heard of couples choosing to live together for economic reasons, or not getting married because of the income tax purposes, but yes for us it was a personal choice.

I've been with my GF for more than 5 years and I haven't even considered marriage. We have a life life together and a ring and a piece of paper wouldn't change anything. Marriage dosen't really mean anything today, I don't understand why everyone want to get married so badly.
