Do any of you run your own business? Is is a sole-proprietorship, partnership, Limited Liability, S corp or C Corp? How did you get it started? How have you enjoyed running your own business?

I have started my own business before and it wasn't very successful at all. I ventured out on my own to clean homes but the pay wasn't good at all. The work load kept piling up and the pay stay the same. I never could get enough business lined up to help pay the bills so I stopped doing it. I got started after leaving my job, and now I just get my earnings online.

Yes. I usually make enough online every month to make up for the difference of what I was making cleaning houses. I also do not have to worry about leaving my home and the gas prices, which is nice. I am not making a living for myself but I am making just enough to help my family with the extras and the bills.

Do you make enough online to make up the difference? I know you are really active on some other sites... and in a way, making money online is just like a self employed job - you still have to keep yourself going with it!!

Hi Cassidy. I'm a self-employed poet & workshop facilitator (sole-trader). I decided to follow my own creative funk after finally accepting that the corporate world was not my idea of living my life's purpose. So far, it's been very challenging, but also very rewarding. Every year, it gets better - every year, I earn more from performing & running workshops - and less of a need to supplement my income with a temporary agency job. For the first 4 months of this year, I didn't have to temp and that was EXQUISITE! I was actually making a living as an artist and that can be very encouraging. Last year, I think I only temped for 2 months or so - the rest of the time was spent doing writing residencies in schools and running my creativity program. It's cyclical though - some times are busy and some times are VERY VERY quiet, such as this month - so I've had to go back to temping to make ends meet until more requests to run workshops & perform come in. It's a life I've accepted and is more reflective of my interests. Leaving the corporate world behind? No regrets whatsoever! :-) BrownEyed [www.ebele.co.uk]

I'm SO proud of you!! That takes a real amount of risk, and strength to work for yourself. It sounds like you have learned a lot, and are really enjoying the freedom of working for yourself. Good for you, I'm proud of you!

I started a web design business 3 years a go. First year we did fairly well and the second year was very busy and I had to stop helping out as much. I took on few friends and they now manage it, I'm still the owner of it though. ~Joey P.s I have been thinking about letting it go though because I don't have time to check on it. I have other projects which hold my interests. :) Do you?
