We had a garage sale today and last Monday (a holiday here in Canada) garage 'saling' all day (an annual thing)... I find that there are two main categorys of garage sales...the people that want to get 'rich' of their junk and the ones that just want to get rid of stuff...i hate going to garage sales where people are trying to get rich...cause usually their stuff is not worth what they are asking... Also as a garage sale holder, i hate people that try to get stuff that is marked for as low as a dime...they want it for a penny...give me a break! if yer that cheap, don't bother! I don't mind bargaining, but come on, dont be ridiculous! I realize that some people (mostly antique dealers) are looking for stuff...but buddy, if it ain't out, its not for sale!!!!!!! Sheesh! Thanks for listening to my rant :-)

LOL-- I see this too! We have a yard sale every year- me and 3 friends and we mark low- and then even lower on the last day- We're trying to get rid of stuff and make a little cash on it- Plus it is so fun for us! Laughing for 3 days- You always get the people that come all nicely dressed and want something dirt cheap- I almost always turn them down- I don't mind if the person looks poorly dressed and wants something cheaper- I always go down then-- if they really need it! Gotta love those yard salers!

well thats a good theory, but once i read about a poorly dressed woman who went to a garage sale and the owner felt sorry for her, so she gave her a deal...when the time came to pay for the item...the lady pulled out her wallet which was full of $20s....so i tend to stand firm... people dress down on purpose!!

Sounds fun. I've only bought one thing from yard sale and I do often view them when I do notice a house holding one. Thanks for sharing yours though. ~Joey P.s I agree, why try and force someone's hand into letting something go? some people can't help themselves!

Boy do I ever relate to you I had a yard sale last year and you would not believe the people Rude doesn't begin to describe Them. I had a leather chair like new, I have very short legs and I found it very uncomfortable to sit in for more than 5 minutes, Any how I paid 219 for it and was only asking 50. a lady said she would give me 5 I said no I would give to the charity shops before I sold it for $5 She got very upset with me and called me all sorts of names and then turns around and says my final offer is $6, I smiled and told her to check MCC next week as I am sure they would have it for sale then. She then sent her daughter over to see if I would sell it for $20. I said no it was going to charity the same as all the rest of the stuff. As the yard sale was over now. We called MCC and it took almost of the afternoon to get all the stuff we gave to them 3 van loads and I mean 22 foot furniture cube van for just my stuff. And there were 4 other people that sent their stuff as well, I was very discouraged but now i feel better as i got all the clutter out of my place and I didn;t bring one thing back in. I do not understand These penny mentality, it is like saying you are selling junk but the way I look at it they are buying it so the joke is on them.

I haven't gone to garage sales in my town for over a year because the last few times I went, they were selling their old stuff high. When I have a sale, I just basically want to get rid of stuff and figure I can make a little money at the same time. I mark stuff really low and get rid of it. I thought that's what is was all about. If you want to get rich, you should open your own store and sell new stuff, right?

I love garage sales. In my town, we have one day that is dedicated to garage sales. It's fun, but you're right. Some people are ridiculous on different counts. Good luck with that in the future.
