 I believe this way beyond our help this lady needs professional help and now. I appreciate your wanting to help but have you thought that your advice may delay her from getting serious help. You might suggest that because you value her friendship you will even accompany her to her appointment with a doctor or councillor that can help her with this form of self abuse |

 I agree, it is far more embarrassing to be thought of as dirty of indifferent to personal hygiene, than to be told we have bad breath or body odour. I personally have had this happen to me, the first time was I was told I smelled of stale urine, and it taught me to buy proper incontinence pads, rather than monthly period pads the first ones have a deodorizer effect, the second is I suffer from ... |

 I have to wonder if you have done something to bring on this problem on your self,You stated that your parents are overprotective (these days) I take that to mean that this is not the normal every day thing.
