If you are talking about who won, I would say Kelly Clarkson. If you are just talking about who's been on American Idol, I would say Chris Daughtry. He's sold a ton of CDs this year and his CD continues its top spot after many weeks.

Kelly Clarkson is my vote. She is on her third album, which is a more personal album for her. It's a little darker and although Clive Davis sat on it for a while, I think she has gained enough respect from her fan base to be successful with it. I love the new song :)
