I have nothing against the Koreans by all means..this is just something that came into my mind because last Sunday night i went to a coffee house and almost if not all of their customers were Korean and when i passed by the Cebu city landmark near the City hall which is located back of Sto. Nino, i see lots of and lots of tourist bus mostly Koreans and then when i was walking on the street i came across like 10 koreans made up of girls and guyz, most of them young...i wonder why are they here in Cebu?whats their purpose here?

the koreans that i have come across with in davao city have already adapted to the way we are dressing up. in fact, most of them i will mistaken for chinese mestizas/mestizos. they do not look far from the chinese filipinos once they have adapted to our way of living.

Hi there andak2007, actually Im living in cebu, I guess the reasons why koreans are here bec. according to my friend who is an esl teacher that mostly koreans are here bec. they study english language. Studying english here is very affordable compare to other countries even also their own countries. Besides Filipinos are known to be a good english speaker since mostly of the people here in the phil speaks fluent english. Besides all are commodities here are so affordable and has low prizes thats the reason why foreigners here wants to have their vacation, businesses and even studies here.

They are also everywhere in Manila. I think they are exchange students, but most of them come here to learn English. What can do you, we Filipinos are good in English. Consequently, a lot of Korean restaurants have sprouted here and I have been to one. Their dishes are unique although spicy.

You're not alone...here in Iloilo there are lots of Koreans. To learn English language because it's too expensive to learn English language in Korea one of my friend who is living in Korea mentioned me about it. Here in the Philippines is less expensive compared to them and we Filipinos are very good teachers of English language. And one thing also they hit 2 birds in one stone...I also noticed there are so many korean stores here in our place...and they are successful huh!..because of "imported" thing maybe..oh well..we can't stop them..one piece of advise..learn how to speak korean language and you can mingle with them. :)

hi. i think koreans are here because they want to study english. we have cheaper english tutors here. also, i think, they wanted to go to a university which offers cheaper tuition fees or school fees. going to a university in korea is expensive. aside from these, our department of tourism had build friendship ties with the korean officials, one way of promoting our products and tourist spots in order to earn income if they visited us.

I think it's amazing that you can tell where you all come from! :-D When I lived in the east I had no idea if the poeple I met was japaneese, chineese, viatnameese and so on... I got better at it after a few months though. The japaneese are easy to tell from the rest of you :-)

If your also in Iloilo you could see a lot of Korean here as well. I think they are studying here and I think there are really lost of korean in our country today. In terms of tourist turn out it has been listed that Koreans were the first in the list of tourism industry that goes to our country.

There are as many Filipinos living in Korea as there are Koreans living in the Philippines in general. Not only in Cebu where you find a lot of Koreans but they are spread throughout. What I read is that the Philippines is a regular transit point for those who wish to leave North Korea and come to live in the Republic of Korea. The geographic proximity may also explain why so many Koreans choose to come to the Philippines. It seems that Koreans are not so sensitive or mindful at all about the bad news in the Philippines. Lately, many Koreans actually come to the Philippines to learn English either in universities or in one of the numerous private language schools. Some of these institutes cater exclusively to Korean students.

I used to teach in a Christian school in Baguio City in the 80's and early 90's and back then, there were already Koreans studying here. The Korean parents who were mostly missionaries enrolled their kids to our school because we offered the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum and we had an extensive English subject since this curriculum came from the USA and offered worldwide. Our country, being an English speaking country, is a prime destination to the Koreans who would want to learn the language. Aside of course, from the beautiful beaches, bountiful nature and hospitable people that lures many tourists to our country.

Koreans are actually here because their instructions in english are either inadequate or too expensive. So some of them are here to polish their english. some are here to take advantage of this... koreans who are opening english schools, selling korean goods etc etc.... several of my close friends are ESL teachers and that's what they say.

Maybe Koreans are in Cebu because of the beautiful, pristine beaches there. Korean tourists are really impressed with the Philippine beaches that they spend their vacation or even honeymoons here. I previously worked in a Korean company and my boss' Korean friend spent their honeymoon in Boracay. Or if it's not because of the beaches, then I guess they are studying English here. Filipinos are good teachers in English and so Koreans go here to study also because of much lower tuition fee compared to their schools in Korea.

maybe because there is an international school in Cebu, or may be not? just my 2 cents.

let us all be happy about this development. this means that among the foreigners who have found worth visiting the philippines are the koreans. actually, they are all over the country now. it seems that the koreans have found the philippines worth their while in terms of spending vacations. let us treat them well. they will spread the news by word of mouth as to how enjoyable will it be to stay in the country and, this will cause more of them to come over.

my dear friend, this is just an indication that tourism specially in cebu is effective. These Koreans were given some promos to travel to the philippines and one the most recommended place is Cebu. Just think of the dollar earning that our country will be getting out of these tourists!

They're invading our country to learn English. They have chosen the Philippines coz they get value for their money. They find everything in the philippines very cheap in terms of monetary value. Therefore, they make the most of their money by treating themselves in spas, going to resorts, going to expensive fitness gyms and stuff. You know, the things that they cannot do in their own country because of the high cost of living. I just hate it though when they get so loud in our gym's locker rooms. Plus they sometimes spit in water fountains. Yuck! But of course maybe not all of them do that...

The koreans are everywhere from Aparri to Jolo and we should start worrying about their presence here since they have started buying properties like beach resorts, hotels and other establishments. How they are able to do so despite the fact that they are not allowed to own properties is beyond me. They are worst than the chinese since they are into every business competing with Filipinos and much much worst is the fact that they are so rude and arrogant thet they treat Filipinos very rudely even in our own country. I wonder wjhy they can easily enter our country when it is so difficult to go to Korea and stay there and engage in business. Something should be done about it.

yeah they are rude...maybe because its our own fault because we let them treat us the way they treat us right?

Well its true that a lot of Filipinos allow the Koreans to treat them so rudely and arrogantly but i for one dont tolerate this. i have had several chances to deal with Koreans and i have not let it pass if they did not treat me with proper respect. We should all not hesitate to remind them that they are just visitors in ths country and they should behave or else.
