Will you let your little girl get a FAKE TAN?

I was watching TV last night and they showed this Hollywood mom who spent $1300 for her daughter to get a fake tan ala Lindsay Lohan so she will not look so pale for her school pics!! Are you kidding me? The little girl was probably around 10 years old. What in the world are some parents teaching their kids these days? Do you think it's right for them to do it just because they can afford it?

Maybe if this woman let her daughter out to play in the sun instead of keeping her indoors for fear she might break a fingernail, her daughter wouldn't be so pale. There is no way ever EVER would I get my daughter a fake tan - and specially not one that costs $1300! This is vanity on the part of the parent, not the child. If all our parents were the same then school photos would be full of fake looking orange blimps instead of being natural. I am naturally fair skinned, and I do like to tan, but heck, I tan the natural way and sit out in the sun for a little while. Why pay for something when it's solved by sitting out for a few days. If you keep the time spent outdoors down, the sun is not that bad for you. Better yet, wear sunscreen!

And the bad thing is, the parent's vanity will rub off on the daughter and she will grow up thinking that is what real beauty is all about...just looks. BTW, the little girl was really sweet and pretty just as she was. She didn't need a tan or anything else to make her any prettier.

They should not do that. It is spooling their daughter big time. If she so despratly needs it, take her to a tanning bed and give the rest of the money to charity.

I think these parents need to let the kids be, and let them be little kids. So what if the girl looked a little pale. I think mom needs to get a life and let her daughter live hers.

It is just wrong. BUT I am glad to see that it was a fake tan and that she did not force her iinto a sunbed atleast =) I think that moms like this are weird and the world is strange. When I was 10 neither me or my mom worried about this and belive me - I was pale =) I have great memories from my childhood and kids like this probably wont...

Is it right for them to do it just because they can? No. Getting every little thing for your children isn't a good idea, it doesn't teach them responsibility when they get older. Kids these days think that everything is SUPPOSED to be handed to them, they have no concept of the value of a dollar ♥

There is no way I would give my child a fake tan for $1300, even if i could afford it.

That is crazy. That is just anotherway of telling your daughter that she is not good enough the way she is. That is another way of creating another superficial robot that has to have things a certain way. I will not let my kids get a fake tan for any reason. I dont believe in it. When they are working and they want to spend there own money on it then that is there choice. I will try to guide them to the right choices like helping with groceries and gas for the car but I will let them make there own choices.

Nope, I won't have my little girl get a fake tan and would spend that kind of money. If you are allowing children so young to copy these actresses that graces the tabloids with the kind of life they are leading, that is not a good role model for them. And after fake tan...what is next? Boob job when they are 15 or 16? I saw one on tv that at 16...the daughter wanted a boob job and the mother was so supportive of it. Are you kidding me? I will instill in my daughters that beauty is from within and that is really true. If you are beautiful in the inside then you got lots of things to offer.

I think that a girl of 10 shouldn't be worried about being tan. The problem is what society is teaching this young girl and the mother is supporting it. If it came down to the girl tanning outside or gettng a fake tan, I would buy her a $10 bottle of lotion that is suppose to tan the skin naturally and slowly.

People have mentioned not letting their kids sit in the sun but everyone needs Vitamin D which only comes from the sun so a little while each day in the sun will tan you & also keep you healthy! I would never allow my daughter to have a fake tan, it just seems like such a waste of money - if the cild is naturally pale, then i think they should look normal in the photos, rather than be painted in a fake orange colour which is just making them look fake! I guess everyone has a different idea on this though but personally no, i don't think it's necessary for a child to get a spray on tan - especially not at $1300!

I think I know the show you are talking about. I think I saw the preview. And that was enough to make me sick. I would never do that for or to my daughter. First, it doesn't matter how much money someone has, it doesn't give them the right to do such things. She is just teaching her daughter the wrong values and that looks matter most. What happens if that little girl grows up not being able to afford such things? She will have little self esteem because she will feel she is lacking something. Maybe moms out there should focus more on their childrens minds and souls rather then on their looks and what other people think of them.

well, i guess i wouldnt, besides they are still so young... it will make their girls more vain? and besides the value of the money for the girls will seem insignificant? i guess its the mum who wants, n if they want, they should wait till the girl is slightly older.... yah, i guess they are too rich, if not, nothing better for them to do... thus they are willing to spend the money for these luxuries stuff and it seems pretty inpractical too...

I watchedthe same show you are talking about with my children a boy who is 8 and my daughter of 7, I would never allow my daughter to tan till she was at least 16. I know tanning beds are bad for you, but hey so is the sun. I am one of those die hard tanners bit I am also almost 30 years old and know what I am doing and know what the bed is doing also. Also the part about doing it just because they could afford it says nothing, that little girl did not want to it, her mother pushed her into it, right. That's what worries me the most had nothing to do with what her daughter wanted it had to do with what her mother wanted her to do that is were it was so very wrong.

I would never let my girl get a fake tan even if I was rich. and I would never be that stupid to spend that kind of money on a fake tan.I have better things I can do with the money.10 years is to young to get a fake tan, some parents are trying to let there children grow up to fast. Let them be kids they grow up fast enough.

no i wouldnt let my daughter wear fake tan and shes 10. she is starting to take an interest in make up like lip gloss and stuff but you have to draw the line somewhere. i am trying to keep her a child as long as possible. and would never encourage things like that. ive seen programs on tv where mothers are buying the 10 yr olds thongs. i think its disgraceful on there part.

I think that this is one of the most ridiculous things that I have ever heard of.... What is her mother thinking???? I believe that she is teaching her daughter that how a person looks outwardly is more important that inward appearances..... This is just too much nonsense for me....
