people like me take them home. they usually retire about 3 or 4, and some owners keep them as pets (we knew one racer owner that had 9 at home and still planned to take the current ones home. they couldn't wait to retire them) decent trainers usually pass the dogs on to a rescue organisation where they can be homed. ex racers make excellent pets. the less attractive side is..... some owners will just kill them outright, or cut their ears off and dump them (the ears have identifying tattoos in them). others will send the dogs out abroad, somewhere like spain, where they will continue to race them until they just can't do it anymore. sometimes when they are no good even for that, they will get a last bit of "sport" from the dogs by hanging them, and betting which ones will fight longest for their lives :( how they can do that to such trusting, loving natured dogs is beyond me. I would encourage anyone to take on an ex-racing dog, they are really easy to look after, and so rewarding and loving.

I think I am going to be "sick". I will never, never, never ever bet on greyhounds ever! I think that should be a felony. Such disrespect for life!

The good ones will have been bred from. The others run straight to the meat factory!! .... there are several Greyhound rescue organisations about.

Well sadly most of them get put down since there of no use to the owner anymore. Thankfully there are many organizations out there that rescue them and find new homes for them.

They bring them to the vets like the one I work at and dump them there. We bleed them and euthanase them. It's disgusting and depressing. I just wrote a discussion on adopting 'old' greyhounds.
