Ok..do you keep your promises ..why or why not.? I have noticed in one of my discussions..many people saying "promises are made to be broken" ..why do you say this. Do you really make a promise with the intent to break them????

Well, I do keep promises and I do not promise anybody unless I feel that I can keep it. Promises according to me are like rules. Some say rules are supposed to be broken.Promise is a commitment and only a person with grit and gumption promise and keep it. It shows the strength on the part of a person keeping the promises. In the words of Robert Frost: "The woods are dark and deep.... And I have promises to keep....... And miles to go before I sleep, before I sleep...." It is a universal message of not to rest in your life till you reach your destiny and not to rest till you keep your promises. Sadanand.

Wow that is very deep writing sadanand..This is the first time I have seen you come onto the discussions..You are so right we should make every attempt to keep our promises and not to make them if we cannot keep them...I love what you have written..Keep up the good work;)+

I never make a promise to anyone that I don't intend to keep. If you have nothing in life at least have your honor, my word is my honor. If I promise you I will do something then I try to make sure I always keep my promises. There have been a couple of times that I haven't been able to keep my promises because an emergency popped up. I will then try to make it up to the person at a later date after I explained why I had to break the promise.

There may have been a rare occasion for me..Like one time I promised some money an unexpected bill came..It was something I didnt want to do but my bill had to be paid. Due to this I was unable to offer the money I had promised... I know circumstances do arise and these are times when we must sometimes do what we normally would not do:)

As far as I am concerned I do not like to break promises but I am very strict in making promises as I take up only those promises which are inside my capabilities and I feel I can fulfill otherwise I do not do promise. I often tell to my friends do not promise me if you think you cannot do it or fulfill it. but if you have done a promise then better fulfill the promise otherwise I lose faith.

Yes..I am like you ..when someone says "I promise, I promise" I say "Be sure and certain before you promise" I don't take broken promises too lightly ..but have had them shattered before my eyes so many times;)+

As far as I am concerned , promises are to be kept. Once you make a promise you are liable to keep your word at any cost .

Surely not. A promise must be kept anyway. If not what promise is it?!
