In India a lot of people use two wheelers as their means for transport. It is a trend to have one or more two wheelers in households of the lower middle class. In Indian citis these two wheelers are plying in the millions. It is often used as a family vehicle. It is a usual scene here a family consisting of a couple travelling by a motor bike with their two children of seven and four. Even three adults ride in one bike. The bike users say it is more convenient than the car to move fast in the conjusted roads and for parking the vehicle. Do people of your country use two wheelers as a regular means for conveyance? Do a couple with their two children travel in a moor bike in your country? Is it a common scene in your country that three adults ride in the same motor bike? Please respond. Thank you.

Here in Canada I think the main source of transportation is the car although in nice weather like spring and summer many do ride motorcycles. Also I have noticed nowa days since the price hike in gas prices more people seem to be riding these. I personally love motorcycles and think its the only way to travel.

But do people travel by bike in Canada with family, that is 2 adults and 2 children? Or do three or more people ride in the same bike together? Will the cops allow such thing there?

We have some motprcycle clubs here in the states. I love a motorbike and hope to have one someday. Some are getting their motorcycles out since the fuel has risen so high for us. Also the weather has improved in most places and the urge for wind in the hair is rampant in those that own a motorcycle. I have never seen children on motorcycles in this country. We have seat belt laws and I think that it would be against some rule. Only 2 to a bike also. Will be neat to see what others have to say.

Seat belt rules for motor bikes? That is news here. In some parts of India even helmet cannot be made compulsory for motor bike riders due to popular resistance.

LOL, you took me literally. No there are seat belt laws and rules for children riding. We should resist more than we do for alot of things. In our country our freedoms are slowly eroding away.

We have motorbikes in the USA but the law allows only a maximum of 2 on a motorbike. Most people here use a motorbike for pleasure and not for necessity. Where I live in Michigan, it is only pratical to ride a motorbike during the summer. Once the weather starts getting chilly in the autumn it is too cold to ride a motorbike here. Realistically one could ride a motorbike in Michigan for 4-5 months out of the year. The rest of the time it would be too cold.

That sounds chilly but when I was a kid I rode my bicycle all year round even in the winter and snow. I just bundled up and with the pedaling it helped to keep me warm.

Three adults can only ride on one bike here if there is a sidecar fitted. Surprisingly, considering the inclemency of our weather, some hardy souls do use motorcycles for regular transport and I myself have done so in the past. all the best urban

In state we have motorbike as well, but the only different is that people here tends to use motorbike as their hobby more then main transportation .We are not allowed to ride more then two people on one bike. I agree motorbike is more convenience then car and save a lot of gas money too. Therefore in spring and summer time my husband like to ride his bike to work.

Though they are economical the weather is one reason for the reluctance of using motor bikes in the US, I think. Thank you for your response.

Hi Abroji! yes, I do have motor bike and it makes me feel good to ride ;) There are two reasons behind.. First, as you told, in those Areas where there is no way to pass a vehicle, this two wheeler is easy to accompany :) secondly, I don't have the Car hehehe. You are right that lower middle class, even the middle class is not in the capacity to own a car and then afford (in my country). But since the economic conditions are good and banks are offering the vehicles at some attarctive mark-up rates, this has made the situation altogether different. Thanks for giving a chance to share. All the best!

Nice to see that you changed your profile face again. I am from your own state and I only travel in my motor cycle. I travel in my pet motor cycle for upto 100 kms without tiring. I love biking. It is also important here to mention here that I met with several accidents inspite of being a careful driver. And that is the part of life. i take it sportively.

In the Indian standard of life and the condition of our roads two wheelers are more suitable to the lower middle class of society. Nothing is wrong about it. How nice it would have been if every one paid some heed to the road rules also. Avtar was changed respecting your suggestion. Thank you.

I agree with you, as even my home country is India .. ;) .. As you said, two wheelers are the ones that cover most of the parts of the Road, and is the most common vehicle in India. But, its always scary to see a whole family riding in a single motorbike. That too, when some of them are children, its like watching a circus on the road. But I rarely saw motorbikes at places in US, when I visited there for my official purposes. I dont know that was the case in that state alone, or in the entire US. But whatever may be, motorbike riders, please take care of your family too..

in india the most convinient vehicle is two wheeler as there is so much of traffic.in middle there is a must a two wheeler.they can go in very narrow lane without disturbing others. when the traffic rules are strict u cant find three people on one bike but if u roam around small lanes u can most of the people doing this thing.

Well, thats a nice question Abroji, which will enable us Indians to understand the lifestyle of other Foreign countries. As I am from Punjab, a Norhtern state of India. So I'll let you know of the scenario prevailing here. People in Punjab specially youngsters are just crazy about Bikes. Compared to older times of scooters its the New Bike Mania here. Guys like to take their Girl Friends on the bike, and girls just love these bike-rides. And on the days when weather is Cool and Pleasant, usually you get to see a lot of bikers. Observing these Trend Changes, even core Indian companies like Bajaj is now concentrating more on Bikes, which has proven to be more lucrative contemporarily.

that was a rather facetious comment. You know very well that i meant that they are not used to the extent that they are in Delhi and Pune. They are not the main mode of transport. Visit and find out,,,you can count the number of two wheelers

Thank you for the explanation. I understand what you mean. In my original posting I described the state of affair of India as a whole. May be in the metros you mentioned number of twowheelers are less, but that doesn't make any change to the overall situation in the country. Banglore is the fastest developing city in India, and I read somewhere that it is in Bangalore the most nummber of two wheelers are put in use in the world. Any way I gather what you conveyed.

Unfortunately, not everybody gets around on two wheels. In fact, most people who live or travel by themselves will get around in a car. Middle class, lower class, it's all the same, just the higher you go, the more expensive it looks. It drives up gas prices like you wouldn't believe. Not to mention what it does to the air, I still can't believe that this is home.

That is what I heard about the US. Everybody there use a car. Motor bikes are very rare. Hike in gas prices is a universal phinomynon, so is the pollution caused by the use of fossil fuel. Thank you for the response.

Though lot of indians still are using motor bikes more than cars but in metros the situation is started to change all of them has got money and it is easy to get a loan for 4 wheeler so even lot of youngsters are turning to car from motorcycle .earlier youngsters were used bicycles and they turned to two wheelers and now to cars. But two wheeler industry is still strong in india and more and more innovative two wheelers are available in the market.

You are right Manoj_s. Though number of cars put into road are increasing number of two wheelers are not decreasing. I think the most number of two wheelers are put into use in India. Afterall India is a country with such huge population. Thank you for your comment.

People use them, as well as motorized bicycles and also scooters. None of those would be considered a family vehicle, although you might see a single passenger on board. I've never seen three adults or three people on any of the things I mentioned. Our climate isn't great for motorbikes, but the Irish really love the TT races, so we get a lot of bikes on the road as people travel from one race to another, or to the Manx races and back and forth.

I am a VietNamese. In my country, wherever you go, you see bikes and motor bikes. And it's not very strange to see a couple with their children or three people ride in a motor bike, but that's illegal. And I think that it's not comfortable to have so many wheelers on the street. It's so annoying and very noisy. Not mentioned to the careless riders all around. I'd prefer a city with a lot of cars or buses.
