Hello everyone. Maybe this question has been asked before but maybe my situation is unique and you might be able to give me good advice. I'm interested in publishing my own paper back. How do you get a book published? What is the exact procedure? I don't live in the US but my country is not a good place to have books published. I have come accross some online companies who will offer to publish books for $1,000 or less. Are they any good? Please help me.

If you're looking to publish traditionally, then you need to submit queries to publishers and/or agents. But since you are in a country that is not a good place to have books published, I suggest Print on Demand or self publishing. You might want to try Booklocker.com or iUniverse. These are Print on Demand companies. Whatever you do, stay away from PublishAmerica! People have been scammed by them. I suggest checking out Preditors and Editors.http://anotherealm.com/prededitors/ They do research on companies and post warnings on the bad ones. Another site to try out is Lulu.com. They offer a tutorial on how to selfpublish your book. Hope this helps!

Wow. Thank you katrinka. Your post is really very informative and helpful. I guess "self publishing" is the term I was really looking for. I hope you don't mind if I ask you another question. I will be looking forward to your answer if you have the time. I was wondering about how successful self published books turn out to be. Is there a possibility that you can self publish and earn a decent income out of the royalties or something? Do people earn well from self publishing? Thank you very much for taking the time to respond.
