Senior Skip Day

Back when I was in high school, we had a tradition called senior skip day. The day the seniors were supposed to skip was supposed to be a secret, but somehow, the teachers always figured it out. The supportive teachers made that day a busy work day, usually watching a film or some open book worksheet, so the skippers wouldn't miss anything. The not-so-supportive ones assigned pages of work and threatened those who skipped would fail the class. I don't remember skipping on Senior skip day, because I was afraid of failing. My best friend and I did skip school on field day. We were not athletic and were always the last chosen for team sports. We did go to the local DQ and then played tennis. Our psychology teacher was there and gave us some pointers on our technique. Did you ever skip school? Was it an organized skip? What are your memories?

Nope, never skipped school. I don't remember if there was a field day, by my senior year I was out of gym. If it didn't involve a horse, and it was a sport, I wasn't interested.

Did you not have to take gum class? I wish I had had that option when I was in school. I hated it.

The seniors didn't if they had 2 & a half years of it already. I hated gym too. About the only thing I was ever any good at was base/soft ball and probably because I played so much of it as a kid. Since I have no depth preception tennis & badmittin are out. And running wasn't much good since I was the shortest in the class. Basketball they always teamed me against the tallest girl, because I could steal the ball out from under her dribble. But I hated they way they had us girls playing the game, BORING!

Oh how lucky! My senior year in gym was a cake walk. Except for the mandatory Physical Fitness Test and running the mile and a half, it was a cake walk. When we had golf, my girlfriends and I rolled up our shorts and shirts and tried to get a tan. We also had a lot of pingpong and and Richard Simmons aerobic workouts. Guess the part I hated most was never having enough time to change between classes in that smelly locker room.
