New Job Offer

Hello all of my Mylot Friends!
It has been a great weekend.
Just wanted you all to know that I've been offered a new job at the school where I work as the Director of the Afterschool Care Program.
I am looking for ideas on setting up classes for our older students (6-9th graders) and some activities for the high school students as well.
I am thinking of things such as private music and voice lessons, drama, drivers education, CPR and First aid etc...
If you have something that you think would be good, please respond to this discussion! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

You have some good Ideas already. Standard First Aid and CPR(SRA-CPR) are great ideas. My husaband teaches them and I wish everyone would take a class. One just never knows when you will need these skills.
Drivers Education is a great one also as they can get insurance cheaper after having that class.
How about a photography class. It is a great way to use their creative skills

Oh! I hadn't thought of that! I was thinking of maybe starting a school newspaper, but the photography class in itself, would go along with that as well. I wish your husband was close enough to teach for me! I could use him!

I think they should taught about wild food and camping and survival type of things from urban to suburban to rural. Life changes and so these skills will be available to them so that they can help others if and when the time comes. Just my thoughts. Good luck with your new job. Awesome responsibility.

Am glad to have something of value to contribute. Only please don't leave the girls out. Single women can take care of themselves and skills would make them savable if times were bad enough. Thanks for responding to me.

this is true. I'd never dream of leaving the girls here out. Most of them are such redneck girls anyway! lol
When I wrote that, I had about 4 boys that I was trying really hard to come up with something for, so it just kind of flew out of my hand and onto the website!

Some sort of art class is always a winner at any age. I like the photography class idea. I would have loved to learn something like that when I was younger. I took first aid and CPR classes and always felt good when I got my "certificate" when I passed the tests on them.

I have let my CPR certification expire for the first time in over 20 years. I need to go down and take the class again. Maybe I will just take it with the kids this fall!
