How often do you wash your keyboard!

It has been a huge amount of time since I have washed my pc keyboard. Ok so I admit it I have not washed it since I bought the thing. It is two years old. I was sitting here this morning thinking about all those tv shows they say keyboards are one of the dirtiest places. So yah I got up and washed the darn thing with a little bleach. How about you? Have you washed your keyboard lately?

I wouldn't dare put bleach on my keyboard. I dust it once a week , but would never put liquid on it. How exactly are you suppose to wash it?

I have used baby wipes to wipe off my keys and get the dust from in between. I haven't thought about how dirty they really get.

Baby wipes are a great idea! Any kind of wipes like lysol ones as well as they kill most if not all the germs that can build up on the keys. Great idea those baby wipes though.

Yah I know! After I started to wash the thing I thought what the heck am I doing can the bleach take the numbers and letters off. But no I had just put a little bleach in hot water then took a cloth soaked up the water then squeezed most of it out and wiped. Now my husband is a computer man so he always has those acohol pads that he wipes the key boards with. I was closer to the bleach. If I can be regular in wiping it down I won't use bleach all the time. Maybe just a damp cloth or maybe paper towel with Windex on it or something. What about baby wipes or those lysol wipes they have out now? LOL maybe I wont' do it again for another year knowing me!

I have never washed my keyboard before, but now that you mention it, I might do that before I go to bed tonight! lol I guess I just never really thought that much about it. I usually try to wash my hands before and after using it just cause I feel more sanitary that way since people are constantly touching it. I do flip it over and shake it around sometimes though, and it's amazing all the little tiny bits of dirt that come out! Ick!

Yah I think we should try and wipe it with a damp cloth with some cleaner that should be good. I hear to if you use a damp cloth to be sure to make sure the keyboard is dryed throughly with a cloth afterward. I guess because germs like the damp so I am told. LOL I have no idea. You hear these things then wonder how true it all is. Made it makes sense to me so I will do it. I don't know how often but I will.

I have never washed my keyboard with a liquid, but I do have one trick that I do on a regular basis, usually about once a month. I take a strip of tape, usually just clear Scotch brand tape, from the dispenser on my desk, then I run the strip between the keys on my keyboard. It picks up all of the dirt, lint, dust, etc. that builds up between the keys and underneath them. Is the best way that I have found to de-grime my keyboard, and it only takes a few minutes.

Haha I am glad that you like it! It would be great to have a tv show-- then I could pay someone else to clean my keyboard for me ;)

Well okay then Mr Martha Stewart that was excellent. You should have your own tv show for cheap and quick tips. What should we call it. Wandale's helpful hints, Wandale Help,, hmmm let's see, maybe 'Let Wandale Help! Okay obviously I love that tip. Don't mind me I tend to get a little overly excited about things. I don't get out much!

Promise you won't laugh! My desktop computers keyboard as never been wiped, although it's only slightly dusty as I put it away but I never use it hardly. Both my own and my wife's laptop gets cleaned daily, these are like babies to us. I couldn't waste all that money with 'em by not cleaning them so... Kudos, ~Joey P.s No thanks, I'm not really a coffee drinker but thank you for asking. :)

LOL How about a cup of tea, I am a tea drinker too? Well it is nice to know you clean those laptops. LOL I am really terrible with cleaning my keyboard obviously but I think I will get better at doing it more. It is a good idea right. Especially if others are using your pc as well. Thanks for posting!

Nope I'm not much of a tea drinker either. (I actually haven't tried it) somewhat like cleaning my desktop computer mind you I think I'll leave it to collect the dust.... Nah, seriously it's a good idea. hopefully I won't say tomorrow and then again until it never happens but sometime! sometime soon I will :) Kudos, ~Joey

I never washed my keyboard since I owned it (almost 6 years) it's the best keyboard I ever had. Once in a while I tip it upside down and whack it a couple of times so I can watch all sorts off stuff (crumbs, hair, etc) fall out of it. Yup, I think its time for keyboard to hit the dishwasher! Thanks for the reminder.

You have a keyboard you love. Ya you should wash it but don't put it in the dishwasher the poor thing. It might drown! Oh my goodness what is wrong with me today. Just to silly I am. How nice you have a keyboard you love. I love the one I have too but it is my old one. I have a fairly new pc and the key board as an extra key where the left shift key is.. talk about drive me crazy. So out with the new and in with the old for me.

I guess when you say you washed your keyboard in bleach you didn't mean that you immersed the whole thing in water and bleach. That would spell the end of your keyboard for sure. I seldom wipe my keyboard for germs. Usually I am wiping the coke, milk, coffee or water spills. Let me tell you the first two when the dry are like glue. I have a second keyboard around , because when I spill something on this one I generally have to let it dry for a few days and then work at unsticking the keys. My keyboard of course is never really clean. It is full of cat and dog hair , and food crumbs. Really a mess that even the my dirt devil vacuum cleaner seldom get it all. I suppose one of these days , it will just give up the ghost all together.

I can't even begin to think about eating food or drinking over my keyboard. LOL I do eat and drink here of course but never over the keyboard. That could be another reason why I dont' think to clean it much. But I think I should. I think of those germ test on the tv they did on some news casters and I think woe okay if I dont' clean it all the time I must do it once in a while. LOL But then again don't these germs die after so many days. How does that work then. If we don't use pc for say 5 days we should be able to come back to a clean keyboard. LOL you think?

Yes, I just cleaned it today because they get so dusty! I hate when it gets dusty, I use those disinfecting wipes, no bleach though, unless it was really diluted with water :). I just wiped the keys off, I didn't get down into the keyboard. I am not sure how to do that. As for coffee, sure I'll take some decaffeinated black, or you can give me some hot tea :). Pablo

Actually I very rarely clean my keyboard. However, I have heard that keyboards are one of the top germ collectors that there are. I think it is more important on a keyboard which is accessed by others, such as at work. cheers,

Will it wont' be exactly the same! It would have a lot less germs on it the next day. At least to start with. Maybe if you wipe it once a week or even two. Don't get me wrong I am not a germ freak but after seeing those shows I thought maybe I could wipe this thing off once in a while. LOL
