I think the title has describe a little bit for you. Are dial-up going to be around for a long time or will broadband will replace it? If dial-up is going to be around, untul when do you think it will be before all internet connection going to be fast (e.g. broadband)?

I'm pretty sure dial-up will stopped being used within the next few years. Of course, there will be the last few people who think they don't have to upgrade their dial-up, but eventually they won't be able to do anything because all the sites and services available online will require a faster connection. So, as everyone else upgrades, having dial-up will be pretty much pointless because those with dial-up won't be able to do anything. My friends still have dial-up at their house and some people can barely believe it. Plus, it takes them forever to do the simplest things! They're getting broadband soon, as far as I know.

How about the cost of upgrading? Will those with low income will succumb to the high maintenance cost of broadband?

World is moving fast. Day by day in Internet we are sharing more interactives in form of videos since videos are easy to describe something than writing it. And for this videos we require high speed internet. Not only that Internet nowadays handles millions of databases. And for many site to run smoothly it requires higher speed of Internet. That's why the broadband connection is ideal. And this need of high speed browsing will obviously end the slow dialup in a very near future and may be some more high speed than broadband will come into being.

I had use dialup until recently and not only dial up but we must have the worst and slowest phone lines on earth - well. You're right, it was really hard to get many discussions done on it. It's so much nicer to get some speed, open up the tabs and multi task. Before I was about to put my fist through the monitor on a daily basis. But There are still rural areas where you can only get dial-up. So Dial up Still prevail.

I haven't used dial up in years and they couldn't pay me to go back to it. I don't think I even know anyone who has it any more. Broadband/cable is definitely consuming the internet market.

I'm also one of the upgrading internet connection person. It's been a painful experience with dial up.

It might and it might not. I think dial-up will be around but maybe few and far between. Most people may end up going to broadband. That's where I think it will end up or dial-up will somehow get faster. I'm too used to DSL that I couldn't switch back to dial-up.

Your comment is similar to ctrymuziklvr. We, broadband user have experience the power of internet connection. Hence, dial-up is only a memory that needed to be forgotten.
