Vermont wants to Seperate from the United States of America!

I haven't heard anything about this to be honest. If I remember correctly from my college days, the only state that legally has the option of leaving the United States is Texas. Although it's been said that the government would never allow that to happen either. Why does Vermont want to leave the union? Are they planning on becoming their own nation? It will never happen, either way. This does kind of remind me of how Northern California keeps trying to split itself away from Southern California. They want to become their own state, and it's usually on the ballot every year.

I did not see this on the news or anything. I do think it is a pretty stupid idea. I certain don't think the US would let them.I don't think they would be equipped to go on their own either. It is quite laughable really .

Why they want to do that? I live in Quebec, Canada. We've wanted to separate for the rest of the Canada for years now because we are different. WE are the only french speaking province. But finally, the governement of Canada said that we are a part of the canada, but yes we are kinda a different nation. But wy Vermont want to do that? Are they diffenrent from the rest of the usa? I don't think so

i live in ontario canada. here quebec has always wanted to seperate from the rest of canada. i think it's just being snobish to seperate. ontario is a bilingual community and quebec claims to be just french but there are a lot of bilingual people living there as well. i have lots of family residing in quebec. i don't think they need to seperate and i don't get why they feel they should go off on their own. people in this world need to come closer together and not farther apart. something like this pushes people away. we need to come together as one to have a better place to live in.

wow, that is surprising. I believe a lot of texans would like to segregate Texas from the Union as well, and I expect that they could pull it off...but vermont? I never even fathomed it. I think it would be good if NYC separated from NYstate, but I think they also depend too much on the rest of the state to support them.

I didn't hear about this until. I will be researching it when I get off of here. To answer your question, I think they should be able to. Given states rights, they should be able to do so!.... I don't have a problem with them doing so if they wish. It is not as if the rest of us will miss their great contribution.... So, again, I think they should if they want too. I further think there are some states, we should be kick out of the union anyway....Guess which ones....

I'm sure the reason is they don't want to come under the rule of George Bush anymore.
