Last night, I mad 3 bids on 3 seperate items that were lead bid for a few hours, only to be outbid with minits to go. Also, many bids had already been beaten before i clicked the confirm bid button, I just wondered any tips on how you do this?

Yeh, I've been bidding for some memory cards on e-bay recently and the prices are going crazy. By the time I paid postage etc, I could get the same card cheaper in Tesco! In fact, I did better than that, I went to Staples who happened to be having a special offer on memory cards (for my camera btw). I got a 2GB for £20. I used to get bargains on Ebay - some real bargains, but it appears to have been taken over by dealers who are selling what seems to be cheap prices, but when I check out the postage, it's exorbitant. For instance, my SD card would quite easily fit in a small enevelop (and that is probably the way it would arrive), but they were asking in excess of £8 for postage. And there are people bidding as well! I couldn't believe it. Going through all that trouble of winning an auction, when you could just go to your local shops and probably get it cheaper - and have the added secure knowledge that you could take it back if there was something wrong.

Well that sounds like a good deal.. Was that on ebay or on a search? I think we have to seek out the private sellers for the real bargains :-)

Ah hah...that's one of the tricks of the trade with e-bay---it's a definite waiting game that many people will do on e-bay---if the item in question if fairly popular and an in demand item, many will literally stalk that item until literally its down to the wire, last few moments to outbid the top bid so far...so the game is to put in a new bid yourself...maybe by a buck or two...If it was something I've really wanted I've done this myself---I would say 95 percent of everything I've bid on I've won--hehhe

I put a high bid so that automatic bidding will take place. In this way, I can have no problem even if somebody bids on the item. I just bid like this on items that have great value and that when I have so many competitors. =)

Of course if you really, really want that item..and it has a "Buy Now" option sometimes it's best to get it that way..then you're sure to get it

I am a full time eBay Seller and I buy many things on eBay, I have had that happen to me many times, the best thing for you to do is always place a proxy bid on the item you want, like say you want the item but are only willing to go up to a certain bid amount, and place the bid for that amount and then sit back and wait, I have even waited until the auction ends (setting my alarm clock, so as not to miss the end of the auction), there are so many times as us eBay buyers will do is watch list the item and wait until the last 3 minutes before the auctions ends to go in and scoup it up for a song cause people like you don't stay online to see that your bid has been outbid, that is what makes eBay so exciting, it is the thrill of the auction and the fact that you outbeat everyone else for this one item. I love it! Sorry you didn't win you auction, next time you might want to set your alarm for when the auction ends so you can make sure you are not outbid!

I have one literally over a hundred I make my first coule of buds to test id someone else is actuvly watching the item. I I get out bid a couple of time I then bid my maximum amount I intend to spend then I forget it. If I am again outbid then I look elsewhere. The seller and the bidders never know what your top bid is only eBay. I have won many items that didn't come near my maximum bid.

ebay philippines - ebay Philippines he he!
I love eBay! I always surf at eBay to find some nice things at a very affordable price. Yesterday, I just won an item there. I contact the seller to end the auction immediately so I can pay for the item and have it soon. I bid on a pink palm type calculator with time and date and currency exchanger and many more. I have it for only 75pesos, I think almost 3 dollars plus the shipping. Sometimes, when the auction is so long, I contact the seller first to ask some questions about the item and then when I liked the features of the item, I will contact the seller again to tell her that I want to buy the item and want her to end it asap. If she agrees, then that is just the item that I will bid for my assurance too he he! =) There are also times that you have competitors in the item, my strategy is to wait for the last minute to place my bid so I can make sure that it will be only mine oh mine ha ha!

I have done this and haven't won the item. I usually set the price at the most I am willing to pay. If I do get outbid, then I just go back and see if there is another for auction and I bid on it and usually I win it. It is just a matter of tries. Just have a set price in your mind that you are willing to pay. Put that price as your highest bid, then if you get outbid, think to yourself if you want to pay more for that particle auction or find another auction for the same thing.

I have won a few things on ebay and all I did was keep a close eye on the item I am bidding on. The other thing you can do is decide what the max is that you would pay for that item and have ebay bid for you up to that ammount and if you get out bid you can decide at that time if you want to continue or not.

Lol I don't know how I do it but then again I only go for things like Books and cosmetics on there so maybe that is why I am so lucky Apparently it is best to leave it about an hour before the time is up for bidding

I have in the past put a few bids on item but I never seemed to won any usually someone would outbid me in the last seconds!! So I stopped doing it and now only buy the items with "buy it now", so I know how much I am goign to pay and I don't have to wait And I only do that when I think the price is fair too

There have been times when an item would have a buy it now tag on it and I would bid one cent less than the buy it now. I hare won several of these auctions that way too. Also I would never go over the buy it now price. Another way to save money is to win a few auctions from the same seller and combine shipping and handling. Instead of paying $2 or $3 for each item you will often only pay for the amount for one item or just a few cents more for each additional item. Just make sure that the seller will combine auctions before you try or he/she might just charge shipping and handling for each item that you win.

I have won auctions on ebay. If it is a really hot item and it sounds like what you bid on was, then you have to go on and put the absolute most you are willing to pay on in.
