How Neighborly Are You?

If you saw your neighbor out on a hot day push mowing their large yard and you either just finished or was planning to mow your own lawn with your riding lawn mower would you? Ignore it and go about your bussiness? Offer to mow it for them for a payment? Offer to mow it and tell them no charge? Offer to mow it and just tell them to replace your gas? Offer your neigbor to borrow your mower? Would your answere be different if it were a male neighbor mowing or a female neighbor? What if it were a female neighbor and you saw her having to break from time to time and take an inhaler for asthma? This isnt a new neighbor either they have been your neighbor over 3 years. So How Neighborly Are You?

Well tina we have 4 families that live in our little cluster and so they are all considered neighbors to us. They also all have riding mowers so that is not a problem. Right now our mower is broken so we haven't cut the grass in a while and I to have asthma and other health problems so I can't gut grass. No one else has offered to do it for me but one of the neighbors is gone as is my husband and another is 80 years old and has alot of health issues as well and the other one works all the time and is never home so I wouldn't expect any of them to offer. We have someone that comes here every weekend that does some of the grass if he thinks he can get something out of it. I have asked someone to cut it that does another part of the town with a really big mower but they haven't showed up yet. As for me my hubby and I will help the elderly couple shovel and till the garden and whatever they need, as well as any other person in town. If you were our neighbor and our mower was working we would definately do your lawn as well without the need for payment or anything. Although a thank you would be nice!

Thank You!!!!! It is nice to have one of them always. Your neighborhood sounds like it is full of busy busy people. LOL..... If my neighbors were as yours i wouldnt exspect an offer from them either. I dont really now, it is just that I know if i saw someone like myself out mowing and i could help them out i would. Especially our one neighbor i worked with and know them pretty well. But he will mow and wave at me while i am out busting my butt LOL.

Well the neighborhood is great now, we did have a neighbor that only caused trouble. They eventually moved away and when they did the rest of us had a party to celebrate! Hehehe. If she was out cutting her grass we never would offer to help not that her area was big enough for a riding mower but we wouldn't even if it was. That is really too bad that the neighbor that knows you doesn't offer to help. Maybe he just never thought of it.

I'm not very neighborly which is sad because I've lived next to these people for about 8 years now. IT's even more sad because they are my landlords! I live in their garage apartment. I used to live next door with my parents until they moved away. It's funny because I was just having a conversation with my landlord today and he was telling me I can always use their space their yard and their picnic tables and this and that and whatever. I laughed because, I do like the outside but I don't know... I just feel like it's weird to just sit outside. I don't see them much to be honest, aside from coming in and out of the house and/or when I pay my rent. I don't know. I like my neighbors/landlords and again I've lived around them for about 8 years... but I just don't involve myself with them and it makes me feel really bad. I'd never doing the mowing because, Obviously I'm a renter and he's the homeowner. Even so he actually pays people to do these things.

it doesnt sound like your un-neighborly. You still speak with the neighbors/landlords. And it doesnt seem as if he would need you to help with anything like the yard work. I too used to feel weird just going out and sitting in a chair and enjoying the great outdoors but after you do it a few times it loses its weirdness. Thank you for your responce.

Well I also burn really easily in sun. There is a lot of shade, but then I wouldn't be spending time with my cat and mostly on weeknights and weekends I like being with my cat. I'm glad you don't think I seem unfriendly. I always feel bad, but it's true I do speak to them!

I would mow the grass for my neighbor. I wouldn't be able to watch someone struggle with something that I could help them with, and being neighbors would make me feel like I could mow their grass without discussing it, the first time. If I didn't get an objection, I would just mow their grass from then on whenever I mowed mine. I don't do anything with an expectation of something in return. I get something out if doing things for people and I don't need recognition or reward. So I would not ask for gas money or a return favor. If my neighor insisted on doing their lawn themselves, then I would give them my mower to use with a full tank of gas, and I would offer to do the trimming. Whatever I could do to help, I can always talk sense into people, so they would feel like letting me help even if at first they didn't.

I am very lucky that I live in a very friendly neighborhood. We all help each other whenever we can. So, I would be mowing my neighbors yard without even thinking about it and wouldn't accept any payment, even for the gas. We are all friendly and helpful to each other, but aren't nosey.

Your neighbor hood sounds great. I thought that the one i live in may have the same type of people in it. But most everyone seems to keep to themselves. I too would just mow a neighbors yard especially if i knew they have to push it and it is a large yard. Thank you for your comment!!!

It probably depends on the relationship I had with the neighbor. If it was an elderly or sick person I would offer anyway. I wouldn't charge them. I use a push mower myself and I have allergies bad so I'm doing good to mow my yard and my mom's.

I hate to admit it, but here I haven't been neighborly at all. I've lived here 7 years now and couldn't pick most my neighbors out of a lineup.

If you havent guessed the struggleing neighbor trying to push mow her yard is me. And i too wouldnt know all my neighbors out of a line up but there are 2 that i just would think they would care a little more onw i used to work with and know pretty well and the other the first 2 summers we lived here my husband went over and offered to do her push mowing when he saw her out doing it, she isnt old but older. Oh and donr get me wrong wither my hubby does his share of the yard, i do all the flat parts and he does all the hills and the trimming but i do my part while he is at work so i am out mowing by myself, when my neighbors see me.

We had a neighbor that had a hard time keeping a mower going, sometimes they would be out there struggling to keep the thing going and we would go over on our rider and mow for them, I think neighbors should help neighbors when they can it makes for good relationships.
