What age should they start helping out? Do they earn an allowance?

I don't remember when was my two daughters start to help me out around the house. BUt the first thing that I thought about them is whenever what you scatter like toys after using it they must arrange it where they got it. But at the early age about 6 onwards I do sometimes ask them to find, to get or to wipe so some things, and this is only a light work for them and as long they get older they are used to help me and sometimes I don't ask them anymore they do it with there own. I don't give them extra allowance for this coz for me there everyday expenses and allowance for school is enough.

I have mainly my oldest help pick up toys too. They like to help with laundry so I let them bring some clothes and put them in the washer.

My son is too little yet to help around the house. When he is old enough to understand how to do things though-- like pick up toys, and carry things for me (small stuff) then I'm going to let him help me. I think it will teach him responsbility and values. I know my parents did that for me.
