Beggar or Waitress: Who deserves the money?

I was having hotpot outdoors and this beggar makes his rounds. He actually gets about $1 before he gets to our table. I refused. One friend paid. We debated. a waitress makes $200 a month plus food and shelter in a restaurant. She works 7 days a week, 10 hours a day. I know this for a fact. This is standard. So, she makes around $6 a day, or $0.6 yuan an hour. This beggar, in one restaurant, in 5 minutes makes $1 . Who knows what he makes in a night. I refuse beggars because it is an insult to hard working people.

i agree with you. i think money should be given for hardwork. the waitress deserves whatever she gets becoz she is working for it. on the other hand, beggars, who are capable of manual labour, still go around begging which is not fair to hard working people. but if the beggar is physically handicapped n incapable of working, then i think they shudn't be refused.

the waitress needs the money, any day. I dont think she should be denied the money just because she isnt begging. I think majority of the people would be of that opinion, unless the beggar was handicapped and seriously incapable of work only then would i have given the beggar any money. Frankly begging is the easy way out and then how do people come all the way to losing all that they own ? its just because of their negligent attitude ...

I think the waitress deserves the money. I know a couple of waitresses and the stuff they have to put up with... I never give money to beggars. If I see a homeless person on the corner, I give them some food. One time I gave gloves (the guys hands were almost blue).

you know xenpen that it may be that simple but take it from me first hand that in the area that I am in, the homeless shelter fills up pretty quick. I was homeless with a family working my butt off for nearly nothing. I tried to provide the best I could for my family, but there were times when my husband and I would go without. It broke my heart and made me cry to know that I was doing the best I could with what I had. We were in a run down motorhome and it was a horrible nightmare. It just breaks my heart that a lot of people just a slim population of homeless people and think that all of them are like that. I got judged, harrassed and teased for it. I can't say I agree with all you on your responses. I guess you would have to walk a mile in my shoes to understand. I had friends say well you can rent, but the rent where I am living was more than I made a month. I went to the government for help with housing only to be turned away.

Sometimes beggars just beg for money, when they can use their body to work than wasting time begging. They can choose to have a decent job like sorting garbages, right?! But remind you, you can choose to give to the one whose more needing a care like disabled people.

We need to have compassion for both.

I once saw a show on TV about middle class people making their living posing as beggars.

You can't compare them as both are different.

Where I come from I do not see many beggers and they would never be allowed in a restaurant. I am also a waitress and I make from $2,000.00 to $3,000.00 a month in tips this does not include my wage. Mind you I do work in an upscale restaurant, and I have given money to needy people on the street here, but in our country you just do not see many beggers. I know when my husband and I went to Mexico I was amazed by the amount of beggers there. We could not walk down the street without having someones hand in our face asking for money, I could not beleive it. But I guess it is diffrent all over the world.

Wow a beggar makes 1 dollar in 5 mins and a waitress makes $6 a day. I didn't know that a beggar can be nearly that sucessful. Jez. Maybe I'll dress up as a poor man in some unknown city where no one knows me and just be a beggar. Maybe I will not need a place to live. It will help my apperence out for awhile when I do my little skit. I would refuse beggars as well! NO WAY your coming near me! Getting any cash.

I agree with your view. I have seen many beggars earning more than the hard workers in my country too. Being seen that, I have made a decision not to give money to all beggars. I now, give money only to those beggars who are really old, or handicapped etc. I also suggest you can give more to Waiters and Waitress if their services are really good. I have even give the same amount of my Bill as a tip to one of the Waiter in a hotel nearby.

I agree with you. The waitress deserves the money more because she works for it. In reality it's hard to earn money nowadays.

I agree with you as well, but there are circumstances in which I will do something for beggars. I work downtime in Philadelphia Mon-Fri and I always see homeless people asking for change and I always decline. If I am going to give anyone change I will put it in my daughter's piggy bank. But sometimes I will offer to buy a homeless person food. Also yes beggars should get a job and make a honest living but about 20 years ago there was a mental hospital in philadelphia that closed down and forced all mentally ill people out on the streets. So that is the reason why there is so many homeless people in Philadelphia, and sometimes their illness takes the best of them and prevents them from making an honest living. Also I used to waitress and I worked 5 days a week and usually 8 hours. Our food was not entirely free we were deducted a couples dollars from our paycheck each week. Waitress minimum wage is usually $2.83 an hour plus tips, I did make good money as a waitress but I also did have slow nights.

waitress, it's an extra pay for their work. It is an encouragement to people who are working to work hard. they will likely choose to work than beg because of the extra money they get other than their regular pay

The waitress for sure. She works, well maybe not hard, but she works for her money. What does the beggar do? Ask. Wow that's challenging work huh? I also refuse beggars as they are an insult to working people. Why doesn't he go work for his money. Why doesn't he go stand outside a Home Depot and actually work for it like the ones that actually want a living. My Dad works hard for his money in Machine Shop so he's not going to hand it out like nothing. If he wants to hand it out I'm taking donations.

I agree with you..I really hate people running around begging for money when you see that they are not disabled or anything. Most of them are perfectly healthy so why don't they find a job so they earn? I don't give money to beggars because by doing so, I am tolerating their laziness and I am not teaching them to work in order to earn! As the saying goes "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day..Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life". We all should know that. :)

Where I come from, we do not have to tip waiters or waitresses as we pay a certain percent service charge for all our meals. They get paid through this service charge. As for beggars,I do not encourage the habit or the practice thus I do not pay them at all. I may be heartless to some, but this is just what I think, they should not be encouraged.

Please do not compare waitress to beggars. They give you service and make your stomach full. Do not encourage beggars unless they physically handicapped. LIFE IS FULL OF CHALLENGES. TO EDUCATE YOURSELF VISIT http://harikrishnarao.co.nr/

I'd examine how the beggar appears...If i see that he has a better pysique than me and can definitely do manual work, i won't spare him even a cent... But someone who don't look too good and really needs help, i'll help.. That's why I also don't also forget to leave TIPs for the waitress/ waiter...
