Would you rather watch tv alone or with someone?

I sometimes find it hard to watch tv if someone is sitting here with me. Especially if I'm watching a movie and the other person keeps talking and I can't concentrate on what's happening in the movie. Not everyone likes the same programs and that's understandable but shouldn't they say their not interested and agree to change the station? What do you do if the person your watching tv with starts talking and won't stop? Does it ever happen to you or not?

Alright I know this is going to sound mean but I have to admit that it does annoy me when someone starts talking when I am trying to watch a program. If someone starts talking to me I will point out that I am trying to watch something and that I would like to hear what is being said. If they continue to talk as I am trying to watch the program then I will turn the sound up on the television. If for whatever reason that doesn't work then I will just shut off the television as I walk out of the room. I don't ask to watch the television often so I figure when I do I should be left alone till my program is over.

I don't think it sounds mean at all. When we sit down to enjoy a program we should be able to do it in peace.

it would be nice watching tv alone because you can concentrate on what's happening in the program but the fact is you are with others in the house. it's just fine with me if i have company watching programs or movies in tv as long as they behave and minimize talking so we can both enjoy and understand what we are looking at.should they make any noise and start talking i just leave the room and go out the house andrelax a while. 'though there are times that i need some company to watch a horror movie at night (i might have a heart attack)LOL.

Horror movies are my favorite and I would much rather watch them alone so I don't miss a bloody thing!

I usually prefer watching it alone. There are times, though, when I like having someone to share it with me.

Well I live alone so I don't have that problem of someone annoying me and yakking away when I'm trying to watch something...and I really don't watch much TV to begin with....but heaven help the person who decides to call me when I do..one of the reasons I have my answering machine on 24/7--and just the other night, I had gotten the movie Eragon to watch..I'm all set, settled in to watch and lo and behold the phone rings...didn't answer, but it did annoy me just listening to the phone ring...

I hear you! I seldom answer my phone when I'm watching tv in fact I will actually tell my daughter, son and mother when I don't want them to call me if something special is going to be on.

Well it depends by what you want to see . Sometimes i prefer to watch tv alone when it has a comedy movie or an episode from TV series. When it comes to watch a scarry movie ,a horror or a thriller i want to wach it wiht somebody else, maybe exactly because is scary : ..

I would rather watch TV alone as I am a channel surfer..:-) It's not so much that I will be annoyed that he/she will be talking and I can't concentrate.. More that he will be annoyed because if I have the remote control I'll be changing the shows so often it will hurt his eyes.

I'm also a channel surfer if there isn't anything special on tv. I know this irritates a lot of people but it's a habit I can't break.

I prefer watching TV on my own, although I do not mind company if they keep quiet, or have the decency to pause when they talk (I have a PVR). It really makes very little difference to me.

Home alone - The best face to say it all.
Having the pvr does have it's perks doesn't it. Sometimes I wish people came with remote controls and I could use the mute button on them...lol...

I like watching tv with others but it can be disruptive. When they go to the bathroom or make a snack everybody else has to wait with the show paused until they come back. Or sometimes we're in the middle of watching something and someone else comes home and wants us to catch them up on what is going on. When that happens you end up missing the whole next section. I don't mind, otherwise!

The pause button is the greatest invention isn't it? In a case like that everyone should agree to get/do what they want to at the same time so nobody has to miss anything or bother others.

I think some people just don't know HOW to watch a tv program. If your talking how can you get what's going on? It's beyond me.

I am the type who talks while watching a show or a movie at home. I some how end up missing parts of the show because of one reason or another. I will ask questions so that I can understand the program. I don't mean to be annoying about it.

aha...so you are the talker I am talking about! I knew I would find one eventually. I'm sure you don't mean to be annoying, especially if you missed part of the program you are watching.

We have special TV watching parties, we invite friends or relatives and watch our favorite shows like The great Laughter Challenge, Indian Idol, Sa re ga ma pa (live music competition) nice movies as well as cricket telecast. With all the comments and light banter that goes on even the most dull show becomes interesting.

Exclamation point - getting our point across
I don't understand why people get mad at us for wanting to watch tv in peace. Don't they ever want to do it?

Unless it's something that both people have agreed on I don't see why they have to talk through a program.

Alone is better. Watching it alone is great fun cause u might never know what happens next and sometimes something inappropriate happens in a movie that you dont want others to see so watching it alone is better.

I know what your talking about there. There have been times when I wished I was alone because of something that happened in a movie. It can get very embarrassing.

If it was my husband that kept on talking while i was watching a movie then I would tell him to stop or say nicely to him if he can wait until after the movie LOL If he still didn't stop then I would watch it in our bedroom haha!

Just like one of the mylotters had responded above, I too feel the same way. I always dont like to get disturbed with someone talking beside me, when Im watching the shows in the TV. The problem is more when you have a friend who tell the scene before every scene. Its better to watch the TV alone than with such annoying friends. But if you are lucky enough to have friends who dont bother you, but make you happy, then you can go ahead and watch the TV with them. Its fun too while watching tv as a group.

I usually like to watch Tv alone, though I love watching it with others, i hardly find someone who can watch the show without making stupid comments or speak during it.. or act as if they've seen it before or even beenig uninterested..

I could probably go either way. Sometimes I just like to be by myself and enjoy my shows with no outside comments. Other time though, especially when watching comedy movies, I like someone else to be there to laugh and joke around with. People talking non-stop during my shows happens all the time. Luckily I have a lot of tv sets so I just leave or make them leave. It usually only happens when the other person doesn't like the show I'm watching and makes fun of it.
