Not that I'm a huge Wiki fan, but it has it's uses. I did find it interesting that Missing White Woman Syndrome (MWWS) is categorized on there. For anyone who doesn't know what it is, it's the term used to describe the frequent publicity surrounding missing women and girls who are photogenic, usually white, young and affluent, or any combination of those characteristics.. It's been shown over and over again that women of color, less attractive women, older women and men do not get anywhere near the coverage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_white_woman_syndrome It notes on there that the National Missing Persons Helpline believes MWWS is very real and there are some examples cited. I believe it's very real, too.

You have got to be kidding me! I can't believe that they have actually named something like that! And I think it is just insane. And the fact that it is Wikipedia and anyone can add that information there, holds no truth for me that the National Missing Persons Helpline truly believes such thing. Those pictures posted are always the best picture that the mom or dad can find because they want to show how beautiful their child is. Or even wife for those that fit. Sorry, but I don't believe that MWWS. I can walk up to WalMart and they have a missing person's board there where I can see many pictures of different people and different races.

I don't know if I like that phrase. It seems they could have come up with something better than that. I believe it's real but think depending on where you live it might not always be the case.
