I don't know what word I want to use for this sentence... "A large print __________ in the sand." I don't want to say 'lay' because it seems to common...is there another word I can use for that?

Well since this is your sentence..."A large print, similar to a dogs, marked the sand in front of their feet." How about..." A large print, similar to a dog's was deeply embedded in the sand in front of their feet"

The very first word that came to mind when I read your post was "imprinted". Marked would be good too I guess. Good luck!

Shone in the sand? Shimmered in the sand? I don't know if a print can shimmer, but since it is sand, and maybe the sun is out, it would cause a shimmer. : )
