Do you leave TIPS at BARS and RESTAURANTS?

I only do it when the service has been good and the food too. I think it's unfair to leave a tip when you haven't received what you really deserved as a customer...How about you guys?

I do - when i am out! I always try to leave a tip - if a waiter or waitress has been very good I would leave more! I work in a pub (well I do when I am fit!) and it is really nice when someone gives you a tip - and of course I always deserve it cos I am good at my job! My boss sent me an email the other day saying I was to hurry up and get well as I needed to start ruling the roost and putting all the men back in their place! lol xxx

Well as other people have said in this discussion...you tip no matter how things are. That's because in those countries the concept of tip is different. In the USA, CANADA, UK, etc. tip is a must, but here it's not, here it's only an extra if you were pleased with the service..so the concept is very different. thanks for replying mummy :))

i always leave a tip on a bar or resto if the service is really good, but if the service is slow and bad and if they have favoritism i will not leave a tip because they dont deserve it.

It's an automatic thing for me to leave tips whenever I feel satisfied with the service and the food at a restaurant. Sometimes I go as far as writing a good feedback on the customer service form to commend the servers for a job well done. Some establishments includes a service charge on the bill, so in that case, I don't give a tip anymore.

well all establishments in spain got service included, so i see that it's different there.

Same here. I would normally give tips when the service is good eventhough the food is not really that fantastic. It would of course be a double bonus if the food is good. I like the idea of giving rewards when it is duly justified!:D

Depends, if I still have money change in me left at least lol :-)...seriously, yeah I do tend to just give or leave a tip on the table whenever I eat somewhere fancy or with some special occasions.

I never think of leaving a tip if the sevice offered is not upto the mark. But if the remaining amount after paying the bill is in cents(paise here) I do not bother to pick them up. If the service is exceptionally good I would leave a tip from my pocket if the remaining amount is not sufficient to show my satisfaction with the service. I even take the food into consideration before leaving any tip. Once I remember, we had been to a pretty good and reputed restaurant for the dinner. But the rice preparations we had were of low quality. Such things even damages the reputation of the restaurant.

The way you've described is how the tip system goes in spain, and honestly i think it's the fairest. thanks for responding.

I do leave tips most of the time unless the service is not really good. I even tip taxi drivers almost all the time to the chagrin of one of my colleagues. I like giving tips especially to waiters and waitresses for being extra attentive to a customer. I am a demanding customer and I do reward good service.

I tip some taxi drivers when the spare he must give me is small and he's been nice during the journey, but here it's not the most normal to leave tips in cabs...in other areas like madrid yes though.

I try to tip always, sometimes I can't because I just don't have the money, or I won't if the service was really bad. I won't not tip about the quality of the food because that is not the waitresses fault, I would tip her and then make a complaint about the quality of the food. Many resturants and bars refuse to pay thier wait staff a penny over minimum wage regardless of how long htey have worked there, so thier tips are both money they really need and the only appreciation they really get. Also my best friend works in a bar and told me that if you don't tip and the waitress remebers that she will hold it against you.

thanks for your reply nykee...anyway if your best friend works in a bar obviously you tip her LOL. And if the other one holds it against you, worse for her, i won't tip her at all ever.
