"The Washington Post reports today on some nonsense at Kilmer Middle School in Vienna, Virginia. A boy has been disciplined for hugging his girlfriend in violation of the school’s “no touching” rule." Just another example of how we are overpaying our education officials. The "principal" of this school actually defended a stupid rule that bans hugging, handshakes and other contact. principal Deborah Hernandez you are a waste of a paycheck!!!

Well, you must remember education and intelligence are mutually exclusive. ANd I read about a school that also suspended kids for high 5s...not beat that.

Yeah, the less than honorable Deborah Hernandez banned high 5s at Kilmer Middle School too. She needs a high 5 across the face to see if it will bring her to her senses. ;~D

What the heck are we doing to our children. This is just plain dumb no wonder bulling and bashings on the rise at school. If you cant hug your girlfriend or friends or shake hands the only thing left is to kick them. We need a shake up. really.

We're inflicting these "administrators" on them. Which is probably child abuse.

Participating in football and wrestling must be a real challenge in that school. Our education system is broken and has become nothing more than a mechanism for indoctrination into political correctness and mindless obedience. It is no wonder that kids aren't learning anything...nobody is teaching them the things they really need to know. Instead they are concentrating on the things that don't teach anything at all.

No hugging? Are we sending our kids to school or prison? I remember when I worked in daycare many years back a boy broke his arm on the monkey bars so the owner of the daycare banned all kids from all except the bottom two runs of the monkey bars. They had to go down the slide sitting up, feet first, no running, etc. There were so many rules for the playground that the kids ended up just standing by the fence doing nothing. These were 5 year olds! We are taking away everything even slightly "dangerous" so that our kids are turning into robots. I wonder what kind of parents/teachers/leaders our kids will be because of all of this paranoia?

I remember when kids showed off the bruises, scrapes and scratches from playing rough. Casts were badges of honor!

@@ I work at our primary school, and I have kids hugging me all day long! That is just the dumbest thing on the face of this earth. Touch is not a negative thing all the time! My inlaws lived in that area. Shaking head!

And this is probably another school where tag is banned as well... I wonder if they risk offending parents and students there by actually giving them letter grades. Face it, the educational system is broken.

Yeah, I'm sure everything that might make the principal spill her coffee is banned.

Principal Deborah Hernadez probably doesn't have a husband. She probably doesn't get a lot of physical contact when she comes home. So she is probably a little jealous of the boy who hugged his girlfriend. Hernadez probably wished she was the one getting hugged, but she isn't getting any she wants to punish the boy for showing physical affection. I wonder if Hernadez is even legal. Wouldn't it be funny if she was an illegal immigrant? But I digress. About this no touching stuff now, I remember in school when boys actually settled their differences by fighting. No one got hurt! Two boys roughed up each other, and then life went on. Now because we have this no touching cr*p there is all this bottled up aggression that as they get older and older is resulting in more violent activities from teenagers. So let me understand this correctly. If someone made fun of my mother I couldn't smack them, is that what they are trying to tell me? If we take this a step further I guess handshakes and high fives are also not allowed.

Ms. Hernandez is also a waste of a college degree, possibly more than one! I know the pendulum has to swing, but this gets really annoying sometimes! When the Baby Boomers were growing up, there were many taboos about public displays of affection. Hugging seemed to stop after toddlerhood. When we grew up, we tried to shed most of those restrictions. It was OK for friends, even sometimes guys to hug. I think people were better off for a little while. Then came the retarded 1980's, with the originally sound but quickly perverted PC movement, followed by the 90's and the emergence of the extremely retarded Zero Tolerance movement. Here we are today, with educators so blinded by worshipping standardized tests that they can't tell the difference between a simple gesture of affection and offensive touching. It makes me want to scream! Doesn't ANYONE have any common sense any more?
