Entropy vs Life

What is entropy? Here is a dictionary definition. "The tendency for all matter and energy in the universe to evolve toward a state of inert uniformity. Inevitable and steady deterioration of a system or society." The funny thing of it is that there is something that opposes entropy. Always has and always will. No one knows why. It is just what this thing does. It does so in all of its forms. That thing is life. Do you think that anything which universally opposes disorder, causes order, and perpetuates itself could have come into being by accident? Before you answer, remember that entropy is that natural tendency for all things in the universe to turn to crap if left on their own. Yet, out of the naturally decaying, increasingly disorderly, approaching maximum entropy universe, life became created and has as its purpose to oppose entropy. Why? It was an accident? I don't think so. How about you? What is your take on the paradox of order spontaneously arising out of disorder? That is, tell us your comments concerning the creation of life or feel free criticize mine!

ocalhoun puts a good point forward and has much credit to the implications of hiue statement, life itself is a form of entropy by this interpretation of it as the survival of the fittest theory is a form of entropy as well, for in the process of obtaining supremecy, mahy forms of life bring about their own entropoy! Just popped back in for a sec red.. got fed up with all the previous crap! Have a great day mate!

Yes, ocalhoun, does put a good point forward. Here I thought I had a pretty good idea. Yet, he picked up the ball that was my idea and ran with it quite a bit further than I did. Glad you popped in for a second. Haven't seen you around lately. G'day yourself mate!

I can't say that I've ever thought of the subject of entropy in quite this way. Usually just hear it or about it in a sci-fi show or movie. I loved your sentence talking about all things turning to crap if left on their own! LOL. That has always been my definition of human nature. That is why I believe in the Bible's version of creation. And I guess that is why I feel that believing in a loving God who gives me mercy and grace just so I can make it through each day is important in the grand scheme of things. Of course, I can still make things turn to crap when I don't listen to Him, or want to do things MY WAY instead of learning to live His way! LOL

Glad you liked my description of entropy. I've always tried to put fancy concepts into common words. In school I found it helped me to understand things, that almost everything was not as complex as it sounded. Now, you've actually expanded the concept of entropy to one's personal and spirtual life. That's a new one on me. I think it is a good idea. Thank-you for that one!

There was just something in the way you expressed this discussion that led me in that direction. It was a neat idea and a different way of looking at this. Thanks.
