11 year olds in bikinis???

What would you think if you were standing in line at a store and an 11 year old girl comes in with nothing on but a bikini, including no shoes, to shop with ma? The store, btw is not around a beach or swimming pool and it's a grocery store. I seen this yesterday and it just blew my mind. I couldn't help thinking what in the world is wrong with this mother? One customer must have been shocked as well, straight up asked her how old was her daughter, she proudly said, "11, but she sure looks older doesn't she". I could have died. I have an 11 year old daughter and yes she sure don't look 11 and there is no way in this world would I let her come go the store like that. What is your opinion, ever seen anything like this? Am I just being too old?

I would think it's weird, since there's no beach around like you said. But if there were a beach it's okay.

Sorry I didn't see you earlier, LOL. Yes I think I wouldn't have been so blown away if there was a beach. Thanks for your reply, I was wondering if it was just me being a bit to old fashion. :D

Well, I do live near the beach. I'm trying to think if I ever let my daugther go into store with only a bathing suit on. I don't think so. We have been around beaches and poos and boats a lot, but if we have to run into the store for something we make sure to cover up. At least I would make her put a pair of shorts on. I think part of what people need to take into consideration is what is going on around them. If we were in a beach atmosphere and everyone had on a bathing suit, it wouldnt be so bad because it wouldnt stand out so much. If your the only one in a store with a bathing suit on then everone is gonna stare! My girl is 14 now and has always looked older than she is. I have never liked it when men stare at her, so I try to make sure that she dresses modestly. If I ever let her walk into a store like that it would have been when she was 5 years old and she wasn't getting that kind of attenion. If the store is not in a beach environment then it is completely inappropriate. Even if it was a beach town, I would say it's still better to cover up a bit. That is what I would want my child to do. Unfortunaley there are some moms out there who want to show of their daughters and some that start way too you. I'm not sure what they are thinking.

I think that was it, the mother was so into how grown looking her daughter is, she didn't care about how tacky she was looking herself. Thanks for the reply.

When I was about 11 or 12, I would also wear a bikini and I looked much older. And, this was during the days that most girl didn't look older, I was an anomaly. I used to wear just the tops and a pair of shorts around my neighborhood, but I didn't know better, though. I didn't wear the whole bikini, just the top like a halter top. This was during the 70s, though, when women would wear that into a store. Anyway, this isn't about me. I think if I was with my mom, she would have wanted me to wear something else.

Maybe the child was into 'brat mode' - you know - I am 11 and I know everything and I will wear what I want!! OK darling, anything you say. But if you want to look like an idiot then find out your own way! Now will you please get in the car, we have to go!! Any parents out there recognise this scenario?

An 11 years old who you think is an 18 years old will be worst in a bikini. I can't imagine this kid to be in a store with her careless mother. Is she the real mother? I doubt it!

As a mother I am shocked that a parent would let her daughter out in just a bikini. I believe girls need to cover up, especially how girls are maturing quicker these days. I think this leads to other problems later on. I was raised to not show off what god gave me and I wish more parents would do the same.

That is just plain stupid on the parent's part to allow her child to dress this way in a store. Allowing her child to dress this way is just asking for trouble.

Ya know....I could care less if the female was 11 or 44 really...goin into a public place like that IMO requires PROPER ATTAIRE...the fact that you're talkin about an 11 yr old CHILD though who was WITH her mum IS very disturbing.....Makes me wonder jsut how much parental slacking there'll be when that girl a hormonal teenager....and what the price will be for that ya know.... I swear some parents need a good slap upside their heads with a train spike as far as I'm concerned....

Thats just weird and very irresponsibleof the mother. IF there was a beach around i mighthave understood however I still think 11 is a little to early to start wearing a bikini with all the pervs running around these days. Kids are just not allowed to be just kids anymore..

It doesn't seem appropriate for ANYONE not just an eleven year old to walk around in a bikini, but at the same time we have the right to free expression and this includes dress, once the essentials are covered up. If it was my daughter I wouldn't feel comfortable as if the child is well developed for her age, no doubt men and boys would be ogling her and there is no way she would be ready for that at age eleven.

No sunshine, you are not being too old, the girl's mother is being too clueless. I don't understand what is happening to our society. We are not teaching our females to have any self-respect anymore. What ever happened to slipping a pair of shorts over the bottoms and a cute little cover-up over the top? We wonder why girls get raped and then we see something like this. Even if the store had been near a beach I feel that one needs to cover up the swimsuit before going into a store. Oh well, I guess that I am definitley from the old school!

Hi sunshinecup! Yes, well I've seen things like that at the beach, but never at home. That's not appropriate at all. And you're right that 11 year olds don't look the way we did at age 11 back in the day. It's scary! That mom may be in for a rude awakening in the next few years. She needs to buy her daughter one of those zippered coverups.

I used to wear a bikini when I was 11, but it was only at the beach or a swimming pool. If we went out, I always got dressed and wore my clothes! I don't understand that. I would be embarassed for the daughter. Yuck.

I am 32, and I have a 12 year old and if she ever did that, I would kill her. I monitor what she wears. She has freedom on how she dresses, but it has to pass me before she goes out in public. I would have blown my top to have her parade around in a bikini. Doesn't her mother know that there are sickos out there preying on girls like her? I would never let my girl out of the house like that. You are definately not too old. I would understand if she had a blouse that was unbuttoned and a pair of shorts with some sandals, I would go around like that, but not in my bikini alone that is so stupid.
