need some help with a dvd burner

I have a Sony DVD burner for my computer that is not working properly. It still burns CD's and DVD's and reads CD's but it won't read burnt DVD's. It will occasionally read commercially produced DVD's. When I try to burn a DVD it comes up with a ton of read errors on the verification but when I play in my DVD player, such as a movie, or in a seperate computers DVD player it works just fine. Thanks
