Turkey-America's Newest Headache

June 29, 2007 9:56am CST
The most complex, serious and danagerous situation in the Middle East at the moment involves Turkey, the US and the EU. It began with the stationing of 150,000 Turkish soldiers along the Iraqi border with tanks and artillery, in a region inhabited on both sides mostly by Kurds. It could end with an armed intervention, the withdrawal of Turkey from Nato, the destruction of Turkish hopes of entering the EU and chaos in the only relatively calm region of Iraq. Hope Washington enjoys the new comfort.

Here something i tell you. Turkey is dealing with a terrorist group called PKK . And these well armed ( with some big! :P countries weapons ) group always threating our peace and territorial integrity. And if it is about protecting our territory as you say Turkey can station 150,000 soldiers or many more, and as a personal opinion I never wanted Turkey involve EU because Turkey is not an European country. And i don't want my country involve a group at the risk of freedom. Sorry with my English i only could explain that much. And Turkey is a really strong country never be a headache but may cause a headache.

Actually, being a headache and causing one is not very different things.

Turkey is certainly a strong country and a major asset to NATO, and the USA will bend over backwards to keep in NATO as well, because they have one of there most important bases there in Eastern Turkey which they really don't want to lose.

First of all, when it comes to the maintenance of territorial integrity, EU doesn't have anything to do with it. Secondly, the north of Iraq can be anything but a calm region. And finally, USA has many well talented (!)politicians, it is not hard to predict what was going to happen, I'm sure they already knew what to do next when they first supported those aggressive groups in northern Iraq. No need to worry.
