I own an internet cafe and I would like to know some tips on how I can minimize my maintenance cost brought by repairs and broken PC parts. In other words, I'd like my workstations to last for more years to come.

for hardware I think often clean you CPU hardware form dust, mainly fan to stay it spin fast and keep your computer cool. but I suggest all you hardware free from dust, once a month atleast, depend air on your internet cafe, if it locate near main street i suggest less 2-3 week to clean pc hardware. owh yeah don't forget put power stabilizer to stablize volt to CPU. and for software to maintain you Operating system I recommend KAV antivirus(great for spyware, keyloger, virus eliminator) and update daily. perhaps norton ghost / Deep Freeze if it necessary. good luck mate. I hope my opinions help.

Norton Ghost doesn't help my friend. Just install Kaspersky Antivirus my friend and don't forget to update it because it helps a lot from virus free of your computer. If you want for spyware install Spybot Search and Destroy for spyware free.

just ask sugestion from computer store what best suit your for your internet cafe voltage condition. if AC input stable you wont worry about it, but if it not stable something look like this will be neat : http://img.alibaba.com/photo/51334448/Stabilizer.jpg its quite cheap because it made in china, but the effort help a lot. 'coz it fatal if your eletricity input up and down. @allansuaco if your computers in your internet cafe spec not same norton ghost method won't work efective ... but if all same spec for every workstation it help a lot. in Internet cafe where I work once a month all workstation will be ghost to keep windows current setting when I create ghost image, so all the changed have been made will gone, virus spyware malware keyloger will vanish also document that all store in the harddsik. it also not wasting time when computer got crash or windows problem occure, just ghost it about 7 minute and workstation are ready to use again.

I suggest to you my friend that if you want your computer to be last for more years to come you should take care of your computer. First you should clean your computer at least 2-3 months for dust free because its number one problem of all. To clean the inside of your computer unscrew it first then remove the other parts and remember "do not" vacuum inside your computer because it may remove the small parts of your computer, just brush it lightly. The dust can damage your computer parts specially the harddisk and its vent fan. Two check your temperature of your computer it should be not overheating. If your computer is too hot i suggest that you should add an additional exhaust fan of the computer. Three if you own an internet cafe your cafe should have an aircon. Aircon helps maintain the low temperature of the computer for not overheating. Four you should not place your cpu in a falling position, place it properly so that it will not fall and the other parts of your computer. And lastly number five clean your computer everyday wipe the outside of your computer with clean cloth.

Air is actually my recommendation. I would never brush the innards myself. Make sure when you blow the CPU fan that you hold it with your finger so it doesn't move. If you leave it free, and blow it with the can, you could damage the fan. The best antivirus in terms of resistance to termination, and one of the best in terms of all-around detection, is NOD32. Kaspersky is good too, though it puts up less of a fight than NOD32 against termination by a hostile agent. But one nicety about Kaspersky is that it's one of the few that still offers rescue disk creation, useful if your kernel drivers get damaged. Of course, it's useless unless you have a floppy drive and create them regularly. Kaspersky also updates faster than anyone else. If you never (or rarely) install new programs on your workstations, you could lock the core and prevent any kind of attack. But if you have the AGLOCO viewbar, or some other program that needs initial write access to the system32 folder in order to launch, you might use Faronics DeepFreeze instead. Of course with DeepFreeze, you can't permanently save data files, unless you designate a separate partition that stays "thawed."

The vacuum tip really works. What if I blow air instead? I'm planning to add an extra exhaust fan on each pc this week. Thanks for the tips! :)

The best thing you can do with computers and owning an internet cafe. Keep the computers clean inside and out. in other words you need to open the case and blow out the dust that accumulates in the case as if the dust is left there the Heat created will kill some of those components.

I have a computer that is seven years old. It still runs nicely. I think it does its job still because I unscrew the case several times a year and I take a vacuum cleaner and get the dust out. The biggest help is to keep the computer dust free.

Be certain that you have a surge protector, and every thing that plugs into the computer is plugged into the surge protector because it protects your computer from electricity spikes. Run an anti-virus and an anti-malware/spyware agent as well. Windows Defender protects windows computers very well as they are very prone to malware/spyware. When your computer is not being utilized, run your hard disk defragger and checker to keep your files in order. Avast Professional would work well for you. Seek out a good firewall as well, as many computer users are not as savvy about gunk as they need to be. Use your air can every three months inside your computer, and dust off your monitor.

You would consider making your place air-conditioned to avoid dirt and dust to evade your computer's CPU. You also might as well need to run diagnostic tests on each computer to check whatever hardware are beginning to fail or are starting to affect other peripherals inside. I also worked for my family's internet cafe back then and I always clean the place and the computers every morning just to make sure that my customers will be pleased with the place. I also would recommend for you to purchase brand new computers rather than to use second-hand products so if one wears out, they will still be under warranty, thus low-cose, less maintenance. Try to also upgrade them once in a while becuase it is the cheapest form of maintaining your workstations. :)
