If you worked with a friend who knew you were going to be cut back to part-time and didn't tell you. And, they knew for about 4 months before it happened. Would you be mad and/or hurt? I have known this person for 8 years. They are not a close friend, but a pretty good one, so I thought.

Honestly I don't think I'd be really unhappy. But I think I would be happy if they did tell me about it beforehand. It's ok if they didn't. The reason is that people are ultimately entitled to their own secrets and this person might have had to keep it to themselves then for certain reasons that we may not always understand sometimes. The other thing is that there may be certain individuals who feel that this is purely a private matter and shouldn't be shared with others.

If they over heard it then maybe I would be offended. However it is possible that management told them to not say something. That would make for a sticky situation for the friend. Part time is better than losing the job totally. Now you can still work and look for a replacement job. Believe it or not, you will get a job easier while you are working. Good luck in this.

If it wasn't a confidentiality issue, she should have told you, but if it was she couldn't have. It really does depend on the situation. I've been in situation where it's about confidentiality and couldn't say anything. When I could I would give the person heads up on it.

I think this kind of attitude really hurts. For sure I would be mad at this person, and maybe, never forget what happened. That's me, that's my way of seeing this things.
