Why would one dog deliberately urinate on another?

I think, Singout, that this would be a case of dominance. Dogs will urinate on other dogs, people, whatever to show their dominance. I had a dog once that urinated on my daughter one time. He was gone after that. They will also hump for the same reasons. Even some female dogs will hump people.

Thanks buldwgz, you're probably right about that. And it makes sense.

Since they urinate on things to mark territory, maybe they are marking the other dog as their possession. Or maybe because the dog marked his terriotory on top of the other, so urinating on him was just his way of paying him back. Dog's are amazing. :)

Thanks for your response meggan79. Fortunately, my golden has never done that but I have seen other dogs do it. I've never been able to figure it out. I suppose you are right and it has something to do with territory. But I rather doubt it had anything to do with revenge. That sounds too human to me.

They say monkeys are the closest things to humans, but I think at times dogs are more like us then given credit for.
