Child Wants Donations To Humane Society Instead of Presents

Dog and Cat - Donate to your local animal shelter.

Today, my daughter received an invitation to a classmate's birthday party. They just finished kindergarten together. On the invitation, her mom wrote that the birthday girl would rather everyone bring a donation, such as dog toys, dog food, dog treats, etc., instead of a birthday present. How cool is that? Evidently, her parents are raising this little girl right. With wants and desires for materialistic items in our society so rampant, this little girl is being taught to think of others, and is putting the needs of defenseless animals ahead of her own wants. This little girl is only 6 years old and she is headed in the right direction. I just thought that was so sweet.

That sounds like a good idea, especially since she will be so young, it will be easier for you to instill the values of others' needs ahead of her own wants. I think I will try to get my 2 girls to think about that for their birthdays this year.

This has happened a few times in my community lately. The kids have these birthday parties and then donate the stuff to a local animal shelter. I think its a wonderful thing especially since our shelter is run mainly without government help. They rely on donations.

I know that our shelter is always in need of donations. And by the way, we just celebrated our first anniversary with our dog, Freckles, who we adopted from the Humane Society.

That's wonderful. I love hearing it when children care about such a good cause. Obviously the parents are doing a great job with this little one.

That is so generous and sweet of that little girl! That is so sweet that it brings tears to my eyes. It's not often that you find a little one that isn't selfish or understand that people (or even animals) are needy. Those parents have done a great job with her! Thanks for sharing. It has made my day!

Yes, it is unusual for a child to not want toys and instead want the animals to have what is needed. She is, indeed, exceptional.
