Our wells were all under ground on the farm I grew up on. I have seen wells, but never went swimming in one. It sounds like the water could be cold for swimming.

Great Grandma as one, but you can't swim in it. It's a typical well with the brick walls and the bucket you can lower down to fetch the water. Of course she doesn't depend on it anymore, she has the well water piped into her house. But it still works and we drink from it from time to time when we are outside and hot. I personally don't like the taste of it. Reckon I am use to toxic city water, LOL.

we have a small well in our home but it is totally dry.I have seen many big wells in my native village.we have a well in our land which is used for irrigating the crops.Since it has no walls my parents warn me not to go near it. My cousins know swimming and they swim into this deep well.I enjoy watching at them.

we used to have one in our yard-it was closed up when the house was added to the city line,so nobody'd fall in it.they kind of had it in a weird place, right in the middle of the yard.

I have a well and it is over 300 feet deep. I do remember the old dug wells that were in use when I was small.
