Devotion for today

We are in Little Rock at an education conference, hosted at the Peabody Hotel. I've never gotten to stay here, so this has been a real treat for me. Today, I managed to get downstairs at 11:00 in time to see the "March of the Ducks". I'm so glad I did. The ducks get on the glass elevator and ride down to the lobby while the speakers blare the Duck March. As soon as they get on at the 2nd floor, 5 little heads start popping up against the glass looking out. They appeared so eager to see what was going on below them! As a crowd of about 2 dozen watch in awe, they march single file down the red carpet (yes, I said red carpet) from the elevator, up the stairs and get into the fountain. The last duck in the row was a beautiful mallard, but was noticably smaller than the rest. When he; and I'm guessing at gender here; got to the top of the staircase, he dove into the water, where the others just seemed to glide in. He immediately dunked his whole head under, and came up shaking it, getting the duck next to him wet. She began to quack at him, almost as if she were scolding him. Of course, the kids gathered around the fountain thought this was funny and began to clap. Which caused him to do it again. I couldn't help thinking of a small child, who can turn on the silliness and become the comedian very quickly in order to gain a group's attention---and the mother who is trying to make him behave, while everyone else is laughing. His handler explained that he was the youngest and newest member of the group and while he had made great strides since becoming a member of the Peabody Ducks, that he still showed signs of immaturity. I sometimes feel like that in my Christian life. I'm walking along, praying for guidance and following that "red carpet" path that God has laid out for me. But then I get to the top of the stairs and everything is going great, and I just let go and plunge into the water. Doing what Paula wants to do...and not what God wants Paula to do. But as soon as I surface, there's usually a gentle rebuke from God: "What in the world are you doing?" Sometimes, that gentle rebuke is all I need. Other times, it takes God allowing me to wander for awhile, allowing me to make a mess of my life, before I come back to him with a humble heart and once again seek His will for my life. Psalm 19:8 The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.

Thanks for this. It is so true and I have had this happen over and over again. Sometimes I feel like I am a lost cause that God will say ok This one is such a mess, but the thing I know is that He doesn't. He is very patient. I hope that you are having a great time and I was in Little Rock Monday afternoon, my husband and I went to see the Transformers movie and then went to his grandparents for a visit. I told my husband that I should have met you somewhere if I had thought about it. Take care and have a great time.

oh wow! I spent the morning--because I didn't have a class---at the Rivermarket. I went down, intendng to grab a pastry from Community Bakery and get a coke, so that I didn't have to pay $1.50 for a can of Dr. Pepper out of the vending machine at the hotel. I ran into my son's manager from Old Mill Bakery. (James worked there for 2 years when he was still in high school.) Matthew and I started talking, and then it started raining, so I sat on the back of his truck, just catching up. the next thing I knew..it was 2:00! How was the movie? I can't decide if I want to see that one or not.

I like to say looking back over my life I can see where God was tap tap tapping me on the shoulder trying to get my attention. Then one day He'd had enough of my 'childishness' and spacked me up side a the head with a pillow. He got my attention and Praise the Lord I straightened up.

Girl...pillow? Who are you kidding? He has to use a 2X4 to get my attention some times! lol I just wish I could quit making what seem like the same mistakes over and over again.

it was alot of fun. I didn't bring my camera, and I'm just sick that I didn't. I had let my son take it to church camp with him, and didn't think about needing it until he was already gone. We will just have to make a trip downtown sometime so that we can see them again. My girls want to come so it will be an excuse to bring them.

Hi, I have been to the peabody hotel too, and seen the marching of the ducks, it is so amazing to watch them. I have been to the hotel in Little Rock and also the one in Memphis. I love watching those Ducks. I also loved your statement about how we try to do things on our own, and not want God wants,How we always make a mess of things when we do this. Then he will gently rebuke us.Then we will come back to hime with a humble heart seeking his will for our lives.Thank you for sharing this with us.God Bless.

I think I was preaching to myself here! I have such a bad habit of taking off into the wild blue yonder without thinking about where I'm going to land or what path I need to take to get there!
