It continues to get worse for America. When will it stop? Why does this senate need a Hindu prayer to start off with? What is the motive behind this? He is an American, so why does he need a prayer from a foreign god? America was founded o God Almighty (Jehovah)and His son Jesus Christ. Does anyone see anything wrong with this except me? If he is an American, then he is entitled to a prayer from a foreign God because it is his right as an American citizen. Go back and read the first amendment of the constitution...this is not a Christian nation. This country was not founded by God - such thinking is ludicrous. It was founded by men, many of whom were not Christians, who believed in the freedom to practice whatever religion you practice freely...without any persecution or government interfering in your religious beliefs. What's wrong with a Hindu prayer? Is his prayer not good enough? Is somehow a christian prayer better than a hindu prayer in a nation where no religion is supposed to be held above another in status? God forbid we tolerate someone with different beliefs...oh, no, that's far too hard for some people. You know what, I'm glad he's opening with a prayer that isn't Christian. I'm tired of the Christian "victim" mentality. There are Christians that expect the right to pray wherever they want, but the country is falling apart if anyone from another religion even tries to implement that same right. It's a pathetic, stupid, and hypocritical way of thinking, and I'm tired of it. That said, I have no problem with prayer in Congress, so long as all religions can be equally represented.

I'm agree with you, even I'm not American, but do understand that, God choose and giving America authority to lead the world. God gives it to America, because He know that this country was built with christian values, and principles. REMEMBER It is God the Almighty - Jesus Christ - who raise a governments or nations in this planet. So if America still want to lead the world, don't play a game with God. Put Him at the first place of your nationlife and He will lead America. God Bless America

I started a discussion very similar to this one. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1212398.aspx It amazes me that so many people do NOT see anything wrong with this. I must be showing my age or something. And there are quite a lot of people who would disagree that our country was founded on Godly principles.

"We meditate on the transcendental glory of the Deity Supreme, who is inside the heart of the Earth, inside the life of the sky and inside the soul of the heaven. May He stimulate and illuminate our minds." What is wrong with this?

Personally I do wish for seperation of from church and state...That was the purpose of our founding fathers. We all should have the freedom to practice what we wish and not have one thing or another pushed at us. As for the Hindu prayer who knows...without hearing it I can't comment on it's meaning. It may have a good message. But anyway...politics and prayer shouldn't mix in my opinion.

Okay I'm listening to your link as I type. I'm bothered by this because Christians don't have the right to pray in any govt run office. My kids can't say a prayer in school so why is there going to be a Hindu pray in congress. Prayer is prayer and there should not be any exceptions. There is a separation of religion and state.
