My oldest daughter turned 13 and some days I feel so close to her then others I feel this great rift of distance between us. I know this is normal but I want that closeness for all time lol Im stingy I guess.

I am right there with you. My oldest is 13 also. She can be like a best friend one day and others wants nothing to do do with me. I agree I enjoy the close times.

My daughter turned 14 this past spring. We went through a really rough time during her 11-12 years. It was actually the time leading up to her first period. Once that started things got better between us again. She thinks I am really cool, but there are times when she doesn't want to be around us and wants to be with her friends (see my post on grade 8 graduation *rolling eyes*). I know I wasn't very close to my mother as a teenager. Actually, I don't think I ever was. I was closer to my father. I know there will come a time when my daughter will start to pull away from me and I'm holding on for dear life. We do have such fun together right now.

Hang on to your baby as long as you can , there is coming a time when she will no longer want to be seen with her parents it just aint cool lol, When my daughter was a teen we were best friends but she wanted to be with her friends so come night time and quiet time she would again be my best friend and want to talk about all the fun and new things she is doing with her friends. No your not being stingy its called mothery love.
