After years and years of living-in together, Why has he not married her yet?

They say that the ultimate manifestation or gauge that a guy REALLY loves you is when he is willing to marry you inspite of the uncertainties or possibilities that marriage MAY NOT last for a lifetime. My question is that if you have been living together with your girlfriend/live-in partner for several years already (say, 5 years) and you have a kid together, why can't the guy marry the girl? What could possibly be the guy's reason? By the way, the woman wants to get married already for they are in the early 30's and as for the guy, the guy mentioned that he wants to GET MARRIED someday so there's no question of the guy being marriage-phobic.

I'm very indiffernt to the importance of marriage. it is just a piece of paper really. more important is the quality of your relationship...how much you love and respect each other. i could live happily with a man that I truly loved and the issue of marriage would not be an issue.

No. I have been married twice. Once in a church...once without. For me, it really is the quality of the relationship that counts. Being respectful, caring and honest of each other mean alot more to me.

I see.. But you would still consider getting married in the future if you find someone you think is worth living or being with for the rest of your life?

marriage is of no importance to me and is not a proclamation of love in my eyes. You must also realize that marriage is a great expense for a young family and maybe he just thinks they can not afford it.

They're not a young family. both the man and the woman is in their early 30's, both are employed. As for the wedding expenses, I think a civil wedding wouldn't cost that much.

it really does not matter if they marry or not but what matters most is if their society is indifferent to their condition ... the boy an' girl both have decided to live-in and also have a child so it is upto them to decide if they want to marry .. well as u said that the girl is ready then she should be able to convince the boy . i hope that they settle down and not cause problem of splitting up..
