I work in a store and we break down boxes every nite. Go to your local convenience store and find out when their deliveries come in. Ask them to save you the boxes. Also, many stores have a separate dumpster just for cardboard. The boxes are broken down but you can fold them back up together. Well, I'm pretty sure it wasn't mine. She was at a friends house last nite but they'd have had to do some serious travelling to find their way to your place. I have always just thrown them out. I never have had the room to just store that sort of thing. I have moved a lot and I'll tell you....you will find a way to pack those things safely. I wrap glass items in towels or newspapers. I pack and label each box according to which room it belongs in and often list on the box certain items that I know I'll be wanting to find right off.
