Where do you do your best writing?

I'm really trying to get writing again, but I'm having a difficult time finding a comfortable place to write. I almost always write on the computer, but neither of my computers are conducive to working. I have a metal folding chair at my desktop, after I had to give up my really comfy rolling chair. I would love to write on my laptop, but when I sit down on the futon, it's so comfy that I don't want to work! :) Where do you find that you get your best writing done? Do you have a special chair or area for writing?

Not really a special place per se. I usually will just take my laptop and get comfortable somewhere to get started on my writing. I don't know, but it's really easy for me to get writing once I have gotten comfortable. Whether I am on the bed laying down with my laptop, or even at a local coffee shop or library getting some time in, it's more about getting to the focus of writing that where I do it. Some of my best writing comes when I might be somewhere that you might think isn't wasy to write at. For example, I do a lot of great writing on the train when I am on my way home. I actually type on my cell phone because of the QWERTY keyboard I have on it and then e-mail it to myself so that I can retrieve it when I get home to my laptop.

Ooh, I wish I had a spiffy cell phone that I could write on. I don't spend a ton of time on the bus, but I could probably get some writing done while I'm waiting for the bus and riding to and from work.

A couple of birthdays ago my husband bought me a comfy leather desk chair for my "office" in the basement. So whether I write on the computer or by hand, I am comfortable sitting at my desk. I usually prefer to write by hand first. I feel the words flow better that way, and in doing that I can write just about anywhere.

I think I may have to start scouring yard sales and consignment shops for a comfy chair for my computer desk. This metal folding chair just won't cut it, and if I tried to use my pappasan, I'd be about four feet away from my keyboard! :)

We're fortunate enough to have a couple of spare bedrooms in our house, one of which we turned into a home office. I do almost all of my writing in there but will hit the basement now ang again with my laptop and do some stuff there. Once I start writing everything else seems to get blocked out and I can usually whip out an AC article in about 10-15 minutes.

I have a little corner of our living room set aside as my office, but that's all I get for right now. We only have a one bedroom apartment, so no separate room for me. :(

I have found strangely that writing while Thor plays video games is the msot conducive to getting a lot done. The video games will occassionally have a pretty seen to distract me from my computer screen and let my eyes rest, but are not likely to suck my attention away long term like a movie or show might. I tend to write on my laptop, sitting on the pillow you made me on the futon, so my butt doesn't go numb from the futon bar :) But if I had the best option, it would be at my computer desk with the rolly chair...but that's in Nick's room, so that's not always an option...and I don;t want to write on his computer :)

Hmmm... maybe when we get the GameCube back that will work. Right now, we've only got the OLD Nintendo, and Jerome doesn't play that except every rare once in a while.

I have found that I get quite a lot of good writing done while in class at school...while not paying attention to my lessons. Because writing is the easiest thing to do at the time, so I have nothing to really distract me from it. Now that its summer and I have no school, I miss being able to write, but I can't think of any ideas right now anyway. Hopefully by next school year, I'll be engergiazed and full of new inspiration.

I find it easier to write in my computer room. I have everything there, I can go to the internet through research, and I find it quite quiet. I could do it in the living room, but I do not have a laptop (yet) and I would get distracted by the TV. I have a comfortable chair, I have a view of the window. The only thing is when the sun shines through the window and hurts my eyes.

My computer is on my desk in the corner of the living room and this is the only place I can work. I do find myself making notes now and again, but mainly I write when I feel I can relax and sit comfortably

I had finished two novels already, but these two were written on days when I was relaxed and got so much inspiration. In my case, it wasn't the issue of a special chair or area; but it was more of the environmental inspiration I got. I can still recall those days when I would wake up early in the morning, have breakfast with my husband and in-laws. After doing the daily routine chores, I would sit on the bamboo silts, then watch the trees play with the mild midmorning breeze. It hipnotizes me to dreamland at this sight. After several minutes of admiring nature, ideas would gradually flow. This is the time for me to grab my draft notebook and scribble the thoughts I have in mind. Sometimes, it would be like this for as long as a couple of hours, or for just several minutes, depending on the mood, and the inspiration that I have. This was the time when we just got married and still had no child. But now, it's different. Things have gone more complex. I have my job. The only consolation that we have is being blessed with a lovely daughter.

Hi,scarywhitegirl! I prefer to write on my notebook. But sometimes if I don't have inspiration,I will write something down casually on a piece of paper, then I will organize my writing.

I use a writing pad. I put this either on a chair that has long restings or on my lap . Where ever i sit i really find comfortable with that to write. A small tip. If you are used to cursive hand writing and a right hander, tilt the book on which you are writing to a bit left and place your left hand in the most comfortable position. You will really get goof curves.

It used to be on the computer, but I find lately that I'm doing more writing with pen and paper. Which unfortunately limits the time that I can spend writing, but at least I'm writing more now.

I love writing in the park just before it gets dark. That cool breeze and quietness is great for brainstorming!

I do my best writing sitting outside at a park. I like to go to a picnic table and just sit and write by hand. I find that if I use the laptop, I get too caught up with typos and the auto-checks. I just like to let it flow with old fashion pen and paper. Then, when I get back home I will type it up and run the checks if I think that it's worthwhile. Another favorite place is sitting on my front porch. I feel that writing at the computer, I lose too much of the mood. It's too technical.

I dont do my writing on the computer anymore...I much prefer to handwrite actually...As for a special place....well my room is a perfect place but sometimes I sit outside on the porch or at the patio table when the weather is nice and occasionally I'll just kick back on the sofa...

I like to write when I'm outside because it makes me feel inspired. I also like to write at night in bed before I go to sleep because I feel really relaxed. Sometimes I'll just write by hand and then put in on the computer later.

You can use a computer. My wrists are bad, I broke them some time ago, and they have not been the same since.
