Mothers/Fathers day why not sister and brothers day?

Mothers/Fathers day why not sister and brothers day? Or is there a such thing that I just dont know about? I was sitting here thinking about how much I love all 3 of my sisters. And got to thinking about how we have mothers and fathers day. And even grandparents day. So why do we not have a such holiday as brother and sister day? I said something to my hubby about it and he said because we celebrate there birthdays. But that is not really fair we also celebrate our mother and fathers birthday. So is there a such holiday as sister and brothers day that I just dont know about? And if there is such a thing what day is it?

Funny you ask that because when it was mothers day and fathers day not too long ago, and my son asked "why is there no son's day"? I didn't have an explanation for that at all. In Samoa, labour day or labour weekend in October I think its called, there is a tradition called "white sunday" and all churches celebrate that day for children ONLY. So they get one special day for all children in Samoa (whether you go to church or not). They get gifts, new clothes to wear on that special day and treated like royalty sometimes. It's quite interesting and no doubt the kids love that! I really don't know why there aren't special days for sisters, brothers, grandparents and such.

On Mother's Day I celebrate with my sisters. We all honour each other. On Father's Day we got together with my father and brother before my father passed away. The gang got together with my mother for Father's Day this year (I was home with a sick husband). But I think a siblings day would be more beneficial for little kids, especially brothers and sisters who fight with each other. They should be able to take a day to appreciate each other. Others have indicated that there is a siblings day. They make such a to-do about Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day, why not with Siblings Day? Though I agree with DanishCanadian that these special days are just a big commercial idea for companies to make money, I think the best of them all would be a siblings day for kids.

there is actually a siblings day. It was on April 10th. There is actually a foundation for it.

I think you are the second person who says that. I will have to go see if I can look it up.

Nope- I’ve never heard of sisters or brothers day- We can celebrate them on their birthday—but also on mothers and fathers day if they are moms and dads- I am not sure why they don’t have one- they have enough other holidays- I’d celebrate it with my brother!

I guess there is no sisters and brothers day (if in fact it is not in existence) because most of us have more brothers and sisters then we do parents, therefore would cost more for a person to celebrate sisters or brothers day then to celebrate mothers of fathers day. Also, everyone (pretty much) becomes a parent eventually where as not everyone (pretty much) has a brother or sister.

I am getting really fed up with "special days". When I find a way to show my mother appreciation, I will do it when the inspiration strikes. I will not look for a special day to show her appreciation. Same goes for everyone. When inspiration strikes me (and it does often) then I will do something. I don't need special days to show appreciation for people. You do have a good point though. If there ARE going to be special days, why do some get days and others don't? This is why I don't believe in those appreciation days.

I have never heard of the brother/sister day, but I suppose there could be one. I know there is a celebratory day for secretaries, so why not siblings, right? Often times I wish there were a day to celebrate siblings that have passed on, other than the actual day that it occurred. Perhaps a way of remembering a loved one or sibling with songs or scrapbooking or joint family activities. Family members could get together and talk about the good times and offer emotional support for one another. I would love to have a daughter's celebrations day as well. Or, perhaps a day celebrating the bond between mothers and their daughters. I know some people will say that is just mother's day in disguise, but a mother/daughter day could be a time when both people express their feelings toward each other. Not simply a day celebrating moms.
